  • Bus Air Freon Leak?

Posted by Jerry on January 17, 2016 at 10:44 am

After cleaning behind my bus air outside condenser, (using Simple Green Aero), I noticed bubbles coming from a fitting on the tank which has the two Freon sight glasses. It looks like a pop off or safety pressure valve maybe

    or what?

I tried to tighten, but is was very tight already .

What is this, and has anyone experienced this?

The tank is the accumulator tank and I also had a leak in the sight glass fitting on my 97 coach.

I did not need soapy water because I could see the trace of refrigerant oil on the accumulator indicating a leak. Because after cleaning the oil trace did not show up any time soon I ignored it. I think in the 8.25 years we had that coach I might have added about 2 or 3 pounds of 134A so with a leak that small freon was cheaper than the repair.

Thanks Jon, I agree with you on adding a little. I asked Prevost to add some the other day, they would not. Said if it was low, it must have a leak, and they would not add any if there is a leak. This 04 I just bought has not had any added since new, until this past July, I knew it had to be a small leak. This is the only place I could find that was greasy.

I believe Prevost has a legal responsibility to repair leaks in an A/C system before recharging.

What happens in my garage stays in my garage.

    Jerry,

I am in Marion Illinois, I own a HVACR shop and can and will gas up your bus air. I also can fix that leak but if it is really small it might not be worth the time. I take care of mine and some others here in town. As far as Prevost is concerned as to legality……… It is just horse shit… They just want to give you a good torkin……

If you are a Prevost Communty member I will be glad to take care of any of you!
