Broke down! Clutch slave cylinder out. Any ideas??
Merry Christmas everyone!!!! On going trouble with clutch on my 5 speed spicer transmission. Several months ago the clutch master cylinder went out and I was able to locate the last one in the southeast. Because it was a Ford part it made the search easier. Now my slave cylinder is leaking and the clutch is barely working. Contacted Prevost parts and they can’t get one and does not have a rebuild kit. Called the Prevost service rep and he is looking into it with the manufacturer. Tried several truck part places and nothing comes up. Probably due to the age of the coach (1991). I removed the slave cylinder, took it apart and cleaned it out. It was very dirty. The seal doesn’t look bad but seems weak. Has anyone ever had some one rebuild a hydraulic cylinder?? And who can do it?? I’ve got till Jan 9th to get this repaired, then I have to be back to work!! Thanks for any advice in advance!! Mike

Mine has a solid linkage.
If its like a car slave you could take it appart and clean it really well with brake cleaner. Get a little pick and carefully remove the “o ring” and see if you can measure it and get a replacement. If the piston and bore are in good shape (not scratched badly) you should be able to put it back together. Worst case you could get a hone and polish the bore and maybe some extra fine emery cloth on the piston to take out any scratches. Try to flush clean fluid through the tubing before you put it back together.

I just re read original post. You said it is leaking, try honing it. I have one if you have one without air assist on slave cyl that might work has offset mounting bolts. They come off hydraulic clutch used on volvo semi with eaton auto shift 10 spd. I will look at prevo clutch book later and sww if they are the same. Bob

You might also check with Luke at US Coach and Equipment Sales (856) 794-3104. He helped my out with the only part I was unable to get directly from Prevost.

Found the post ….. Thanks everyone! Great help from you all. I did a little digging and found that a 1981 Audi Coupe clutch slave cylinder had the same bore. For $35 minus discount making it $19 I ordered it and gutted it. After honing and installing the plunger and bleeding air ….. works like a champ!
