  Brake lights stuck on

  Hi –
  
  we have a 95 xl 40 and woke up this morning and the brake lights are stuck on. The wheels move freely and the relay seems to be working just fine. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
  
  Is it safe to drive to the service station? The next leg of our trip is 93 from Kingman AZ down to Phoenix which involves lots of 6% grades and turns. My husband wants to go, but I’d like more information before heading down.
  
  All thoughts and suggestions appreciated.
