So for a slightly older coach then Karl’s, whats the price point for doing all brake chambers (approx labor included or at least amount of time expected)?
I have those as well as finishing off the remaining air bags this spring and am wondering what to budget for the work on the brake side (I already have an idea with the airbags since we are part way into those already).
Karl, have you tried to put the original year back on the side of your coach to see if you can get a cheaper quote for the work 🙂

Jeff or the other non-Prevost service folks can amend my guess, but with conventional brake chambers the front will be a single and I would expect a $35 to $45 price. The drive is likely to be a combo, probably a 30-36 and I used to pay in the $110 range, now likely a little higher. The rear combo is a non-stocked size if I recall so I made it up with a single brake chamber and what is called a piggy back with the emergency brake the correct size and the front sized to accept parts from the single I bought for parts. By the time i got done I think I had about $130 tied up in the tag axle combo. I think the tag combo was a 16-24 and when I needed them nobody stocked them. Prevost was in the $300 price range for those and almost $400 for the drive at the time.
I did have to cut the push rods to length on all brake chambers I bought. I got them at Fleet Pride and Truck Pro.
I’m guessing just the time to remove and replace brake chambers was in the range of about 5 to 6 hours. Some of the time was spent polishing slack adjusters.

Thanks Jon, I’ll be skipping the polishing of said slack adjusters. Will add these to my list of things to do this spring while I spend some time in Tennessee.
Also sounds like the best source for these parts is anyone but Prevost.

I left off some of the sizes and don’t have current prices. The sizes may have varied so use sizes called for on your coach. The prices I had were what I paid the last time I replaced my old style chambers.
Brake chambers are an easy fix in that no special tools are needed, but if you intend to do your own work you must understand and respect what it takes to cage a brake. Mishandling a brake chamber with the spring brake can injure or kill you.
Those highway inspection stations that trucks drive into all check slack adjusters for their shine. No polishing and you aren’t allowed to go anywhere unless they are polished. That’s true.

All good points. Thanks for the info. Got my third quote today. Where two agree, I will follow! Gonna be about $4k George. I couldn’t tell you why so much more than yours…..Wish I could. I never seem to get the discount price.
Peter, I only recently heard of these chambers and am already working on it, though taking the time to try for a reasonable savings. Just two years ago I did all of the airbags, Norgrens, fittings, ride height valves, shocks, etc with Jons help and supervision. These just weren’t on the list (that sound you hear is Jon mumbling “thank God” repeatedly!).
