Not sure I understand if that is a part that overlies the painted bottom of the door or replaces it?

I have never had an H3, but I have never experience enough road rash on the bottom panels of my bay doors on my XL to justify any form of protection.

If the part is placed over the door bottom what protects the door bottom painted surface from getting abraded by fine grit sure to work between the two, and if it replaces the bottom painted surface why won’t that chip and get damaged compared to the quality finishes that are applied to the bottom of the doors.

Cosmetically I think the coaches look fantastic with their paint schemes and to change the bottom perimeter to black might detract from their appearance.

It replaces the bottom panel .. and I agree with you they look better with out them .. but —

A $155 panel is easy to replace compaired to fixing paint .. as I am finding out all too harshly.

Before you do that maybe you should look at other H3’s of your vintage or older to see how the bottom panels of their doors look. I don’t recall damage so severe to any H3’s or XLs that repainting or repolishing would have been required.

My first coach was 17 years old when we sold it, my last coach was 16 years old when we sold it and my current one is 7 years old. None showed scratches from use or wear and tear. Are you judging the need based on a previous owners abuse or do you drive in harsh conditions such as gravel roads? We drove our first coach 10 years on salt and sand covered roads in the rust belt and the bottom of our bay doors still had a nice shine.

I do realize the Acme Company is located in the desert and on occasion you may have to pick up products from the Acme Company to get that pesky roadrunner but I’m guessing you would still be OK as long as you stay on the blacktop as often as possible.

I have the Prevost version of those. I am sure they were factory installed. I have had some computer problems and my catbase is down, but CATBASE is where I identified them. They have been painted to match the base color for my coach. I suspect that since I have a factory paint job, I could order them to match. How costly that would be? I have no idea.

I scrapped the last door, co-pilot side (engine compartment access). I thought I was in for a whole door and it turns out that it has the panel protector on the bottom. They bolt on from the inside of the door panel. Makes it easy, you order one, paint it, and install it when you can.

I have not had one off the coach at this point and I remember speculating that there might not be a flat baggage compartment door under there.

I’ll have a look at the archives and see what I have on hand. I will not see the coach in person for at least a week. Again, I do suggest a look at CATBASE at the H3’s in the mid late 90’s. Mine is a 97 shell titled in 98.

I remember the quirk on them now though, just like those from IBP (?) you need to remove the lower grab handle from the bay to install or demount them. I was reluctant to do so as I did not care to crack the paint around the screw heads of the handle. At least not until I have better touchup paint in hand.

Also, I have noticed that the one on the bottom of the entry door has changed, it appears the the center portion has “pulled-in” a little. Why? Who knows. It’s a Prevost thing!

I know why they titled it an H3-45. It always costs $100 * 3 and you will always be $450 short on your budget for repairs.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I think its H = 8 (as in 8th letter of the alphabet) So the formula for calculating minium repair costs is

H^3 – 45 = $465 but its really a problem of mitigating factors when it comes to repairs

H! = 8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1 = 40,320

40,320 * 3 = 120,960

120,960 – 45 (the only discount you’ll likely get) = $120,915

I suspect you got one of them “spensive” Prevosts. I have checked and mine didn’t come with a higher math function set. I looked at all the buttons and there is no “^” nor any “!” buttons anywhere in my coach. Based on you computations, I feel very lucky.
