Black Grit From Faucet
I could use a little help here. A few months back I had a black grit from sint water come and go . I thought it a filter for the drinking water and changed it out . I thought all was well till this morning being informed from wife the black grit water is back . I have a Headhunter Pump about 8 years old , is it possible a impeller is going bad ? Do you have a failing carbon filtration element in the whole house filters?

Thank you for the response Jon . To be honest I’m not sure . I only saw 3 filters , well actually 2 filters and a strainer . Like the one on a boat . So I have a strainer, a spin on filter and the drinking water ice maker filter . I guess I need to start looking around for one .

That was just a guess Al, but if a carbon filter element fails it could release some downstream.

Do you know if its in the hot or cold water? Perhaps its coming from the water heater.

Jon , Turns out you were again correct . I couldn’t imagine a 2 month old filter failing , but in the end that was the cause. So today I called the manufacture and she said did you run water through the filter for 10 minutes . I said you weren’t serious were you lol . Thats a lot of glasses of water you know . So she said by failing to follow procedure the carbon broke down , and bla , bla bla . O well I ordered a new one and plan to follow her directions . Thank you all for the help . Black gritty water does not make a happy wife 🙂
