  • Bio Fuel ver eng seals

Posted by Chuck & Katrina on October 21, 2019 at 8:19 am

Bio Fuel has been creeping into our lives for quite a few years. There have been various discussions on lose of power and clogged fuel filters when using bio fuels. Anyone had issues with seals being damaged by bio fuels?

The reason I am asking is, while fueling a boat in Lake Ontario in upper NY the fuel truck driver was telling me how (when Bio Fuel was first mandated to be supplied by the fuel company’s) all their fuel hoses and seals in their pump swelled and softened because of the bio fuel. Their trucks carrying bio fuel had to be changed to silicone based hoses and seals to accept the bio fuel

It is rare and has been rare to be able to get fuel that doesn’t have some bio content. Depending on location the range I see is 5% to 15%.

But I have not seen anywhere that I was forced to use full bio fuel. Are you asking about full bio or fuel with some percentage?

Asking about the higher 20% mix being used long term. Have not had that issue to date, but with the EPA constantly pushing more regulations on us I can only imagine 20% or higher Bio Fuel is not to far off

The only way we can stop politicians and regulators from shoving stuff at us is to re-elect NO ONE.

But we as a society don’t and we are getting what we apparently deserve. I go nuts when I hear all that CA is doing, knowing it won’t be long before other states adopt the same restrictive and damaging laws.

Politicians are buried with letters and emails about telemarketers and robo calls, but have they stopped?

We just to do work for Willie Nelson and his Prevost(s) ran 100% bio. They did have to change the fuel lines and, initially, they had to change fuel filters fairly often as that stuff REALLY cleans the tank and lines! After a bit, that was no longer an issue and the coach ran great. Standing beside his coach the smell from the generator was about the same as the smell coming off a deep fryer at your local restaurant. It was really kind of strange.

Of course, he had a bio-diesel business and they would come to him to fill the bus where ever he was, but as far as I know he’s still running 100% bio without issue……but it’s been a number of years.
