Better Drag Link Boot Material??
The rubber boot that surrounds the drag link which prevents dirt etc from entering the steering / under driver seat electrical bay was replaced about 8K miles ago and is already deteriorating. Might anyone have a suggestion and source for a better, longer-lasting material? The piece in there that has failed once again was from Prevost. THANK YOU, Jeff

Roofing supply sells thin rubber used in flat roof repair.
Picked up a small piece from one of the contractors. Take along your camera so they understand what your trying to repair.

I will be watching this with interest. I just discovered mine had disintergrated and now just have a big hole that that shown in your picture. Did Prevost have a replacement part? I may do that for the time being.

Just replaced mine yesterday. No all that hard. Part was $980, put jack stands under coach, remove nut on ball joint, put jack under ball joint & apply some pressure, tap the side with hammer, ball joint separates. Remove screws, slide old one off, new one on, run screws through new rubber boot, reinstall ball joint, tighten nut, put Carter pin back in, clean up – your done.

I had a guy replace mine with some rubber floor runner material I had on hand from Home Depot. He replaces a lot of them and said it’ll work fine.

Don’t overthink the design of this boot. It is not intended to be held tight to the steering link, only attached to the body and maintain a slip fit to the shaft passing through .I’ve positioned a large binder clip on mine to minimize the boot gap but still allow the shaft to slip through as steered.

You can buy Prevost part number 160931 for about a hundred bucks. Or go to Menards and buy sku number 151-9008 for about a hundred bucks and make, say, 10 of them. I did both in 2009. The Menards stuff is EPDM rubber, and it lasted the ensuing nine years until I sold that bus. The Prevost part was for a 1994 shell.

Cannot recommend the Prevost replacement part as it is thin /flimsy and has failed in less than 8K miles

Bought this at HomeDepot 6 yrs ago. Its 32″ x 58″, u can make several.
I’m gonna use it to make inner fender skirts on my FJ Cruiser and Yukon that have fallen apart.

The pan liner is what I used and it is holding up fine. 10k on It and no problem.
