Best route to drive from I75 FL to Indio, CA?
What is the best route for driving West to Indio, CA from I75 (Florida)?
I’ve heard bad stories about traveling I10 directly. But, not much better news about taking I20? Is it worth the additional mileage to take I40 instead (is there less construction, is I40 a better road, etc.)?
Or, does anyone have recommendations for alternative routes out to Indio, CA?

I-10 is definitely the most direct. However, we find it very boring once you pass San Antonio. The almost 900 miles of Texas seems forever before you leave Texas. We prefer to turn north at Marianna, Fl on I10 up through Birmingham to Memphis where we hit I 40 to California. This route is more scenic and enjoyable to us. Definitely further. We are normally heading to Santa Barbara. If I were taking this route heading to Indio I would turn south at Flagstaff to Phoenix then take 10 to Indio.

I-10 past Tucson,Az to Eloy, AZ. Fuel up at Eloy. Take I-8 to California exit 118B. Go north on Ca 111 to Ca 86 north to Indio. Light traffic on Hwy I-8. Another way is take I-8 to Gila Bend. Az 85 north back to I-10 to avoid Phoenix.

If you take 10 stop at exit 456 in junction tx. Coopers barbecue has awesome brisket. Just off 10 with plenty of parking area.

While it’s a hugely boring drive, I-10 is the right route. There have been dramatic improvements of the road over the years. It used to be nearly undriveable but that’s been a many years. Remember as you get around New Orleans you take I-12 as the direct route and that returns to I-10 on the other side.

Sounds like I10 (except near New Orleans = I12) is the route to take!

Greg, If time allows stop for a day or so at Big Bend NP on I10 in TX . It is best kept National Park secret . Also if you want a great place to stay in Indio you can use my lot for the cost of resort fee of 30$ @ day . Tex or call me for details .

Leaving afternoon of April 30th…hope to make the @2,700 mile drive in 4-days. Do a walk-thru of the Villa and lot on May 6th and close on the 7th.
Will you all still be there? Would love to see you before you head out, if possible.

Grateful for your wonderful offer! But, I’m actually headed to Indio to close on a Villa/lot at Desert Shores. Needed help with the best route to drive (since had only flown into Palm Springs previously).
Will definitely have to check out that NP when bringing the coach out to Indio in early-June.

Recommend getting through Baton Rouge as EARLY as possible, then try to get through Houston between 10am and 2pm.
Houston on an early Sunday morning is also good. Baton Rouge seems to be a frequent “bottle neck” and going through super early has helped us avoid MILES of stop and go traffic approaching and crossing Mississippi bridge. SAFE TRAVELS
