“Best / Most Protective” Engine Oil Filter?
Don’t micron ratings matter?
Perhaps I am over-thinking and researching AND SHOWING MY IGNORANCE as I attempt to determine the best / most protective DD 14 Liter Series 60 Engine Oil Filter.
My bus came with Napa 1971 oil filters and their micron rating is 17.
Researching the latest offering from Fleetguard (LF9620) is a 30 micron efficiency rating and is their “Stratapore & Stack Disk Media, Full flow, By-Pass Venturi combo”.
Baldwin B495 and Baldwin B494-SS (servere service) have 9.8 Nominal / 27 Absolute
Baldwin B495-MPG (Maximum Performance Glass) is 5 nominal / 20 absolute
I cannot find any specs on factory Detroit brand filters (Detroit p/n 23530573).
Has anyone found a link to Detroit brand filter specs?
Thoughts…? Opinions? Over-thinking the issue?

I do not believe you are overthinking it, but you may be trying to make a choice with insufficient information.
I have almost exclusively used Baldwin B495, on a few occasions Donelson, once or twice NAPA, but I never cut open a filter, and I never deviated from my 5000 mile oil changes. But I have opened up my engine via the valve cover and oil pan and unlike my straight 40 weight 8V92 engine there was not a teaspoon of gray sludge in my engines.
How much my filters contributed to that cleanliness is unknown because on the 8V92 I used the Baldwin B95 almost exclusively but that engine had some gray sludge.
As to wear I have no clue. If the filters were inadequate, ample or overkill I have no clue. If Detroit is OK with my filter choice, so am I. And I do not know if they are OK with it.

We used Fleetguard for our trucks for the last 15 years or so we had them, before that we used Fram. We did not have any lubrication related failures caused by lack of filtration.
I would not worry about any of the ones you listed.I am like Jon…I changed oil at around 5000 miles. Oil is always cheaper than engines…

DD manufactured filters are awarded built on contract bidding. It’s a mystery.
I used Wix brand where all specs are available to buyer.
