Best approach to ETLC?
Posted by Kirby on June 7, 2017 at 8:39 pmWe’re currently in Andrews, NC (near Murphy) and want to stop by ETLC on our way West to inquire/explore some awning issues. What’s the best approach — from the north or the south?

I have come in North from Knoxville several times with no issues.

Kirby, come through Knoxville and out on the west side take Hwy. 129 South to Alcoa/Marryville.
Come on south past the airport and you will pass Lowes and a mile or two you pass Home Depot, keep on South and after Home Depot get in the left lane and Hwy 129 will turn into Hwy 411 South to Vonore/Madisonville.
Come south after the merge with 411 for about 16 miles and when you cross the bridge over Teleco Lake ETLC will be the first street to the right.
Look for the Prevost Community and ETLC signs on top of a levee.

Buddy: You used the term “levee”, which to me means an earthen structure constructed to hold back flood water. Is that what that hill really is? I thought the Tennessee River was across the street.

You have to remember Buddy is a Cajun, so if there’s water anywhere near a mount of dirt it’s a levee.
Word has it you can find him these days down by the lake looking for mud bugs to satisfy his craving to suck head and eat tail, all the time Jeff thinking he’s chasing parts.

Tom’s right on.
It looks like a levee but not to control water..
Jeff told me there is a lot of old highway debris buried there.

Panels, trim, bay doors, bumpers, awnings, and stuff on those hitch receiver platforms that have fallen off S&S/Plastic RVs no doubt!

How brave are you? Honestly, from Murphy, I would come across 74 into ducktown and then up 68 into Tellco Plains, into Maddisonville and up 411 into Vonore. Going north would take about a day to get there from Murphy. DONT GET ON 129 WHAT EVER YOU DO!!!
Duck town, through Tellco isnt that bad. Some twisty roads, but really not that bad. Just take it slow and enjoy the trip.

Kirby, I didn’t see the fact that you are comming from Murphy, NC.
Good luck on any route from there.

Well, we made it via the Ducktown/68 route. Almost didn’t get to ETLC before closing due to stopping to make a temporary road fix — one of the air lines for the driver’s seat burst and there was a lot of loud hissing noise. Found the culprit and put a vise grip on it. This’ll give me something to do while waiting for Jeff to get back on Monday. When we got here we were greeted by Jeff and Superintendent B. Brown!

Kirby, glad you made it. There really is no good route from murphy. 74, 68 isn’t a freeway, but it’s doable in the coach. Hope it wasn’t that bad.
enjoy the pool and spa at east Tennessee luxury rv resort 😉
