  • Belt tensioner Cylinders

Posted by glen on January 24, 2020 at 7:16 am

Anybody know where you can get the cylinders or rebuild kits for these? 1991XL with 8V92TA. Coach is down at Texas Custom Coach (Pipe Creek Tx.) getting a Inverter put on and they founds the AC belt Cylinder leaking and a valve under the front drivers area. Headed down today and will call Prevost.

I believe this is going to be a situation where Prevost cannot help with replacement cylinders or parts. You might end up having to disassemble the cylinder to identify the internal seals that are leaking and see if you can find them.

Only coaches with OTR used them so they are likely common to seated coaches with 2 stroke engines only if you can find a charter company that hasn’t thrown out its inventory of old parts.

Non-OTR coaches had a jack screw type belt tensioner and maybe someone on here can take photos of theirs (Full Time Bill?) so you can replace the pneumatic cylinders with a home made version.

I replaced my mini-air bag tensioners with a home made jack screw type of tensioning and it has worked very well for more than 30,000 miles and saved me from chasing leaks in the fittings, valve, regulator, check valve and air bags.

Two years ago, Prevost had everything except one of the seals. My hydraulic shop had that one in stock.

The screw type tensioner on my coach is on the engine fan belt only, unrelated to A/C or 2 alternators. Each of those have their own belts and tension adjustments.

But the principle is the same for the OTR compressor so what does your fan belt tensioner look like?
