  • Belt tension air bags

Posted by Art on December 21, 2017 at 10:02 am

Changed both bags on Detroit for belt tension, found no leaks but still when aux tank psi dropped down belts got loose, trying to find leaks in aux system is close to impossible, so instead I replaced the 1/8 one way check valve before pressure regulator for belts tension, with 1 of those good check valves from check valve company part # 6203-2-1mm-3 , now pressure drops in aux system and belts stay tight.

Good job Al , Tight belts are a good thing IMO. I found a leak yesterday in the mini belt tensioning air bag. I think I will get one of those check valves too. I hate the sound of starting with loose belts.

Check regulator and bleeder valve with red knob both of mine were leaking so I put a new regulator on but I removed that valve because it was over 200 bucks so I put a 1/4 ball valve in it’s place remove old check valve and installed new one , The bleeder valve is for bus drivers that have to change belts with no tools, bleed air off change belts turn knob air back up, Now if I had to change belts I shut off ball valve loosen fitting after regulator to bags change belts snug fitting (easy access) open ball valve Done, And how often do we have to change belts. Sorry pic is up side down Check valve is above ball valve had to see.

Nice looking job and work around for that specialty valve.

Have you considered installing a brass Tee in your assembly somewhere after your check valve and installing a valve for venting? You could even use a radiator style petcock if bumping it open were a concern. Just a thought. Nice job.
