Belt Dump Valve Leak?
while getting things squared away for moving on from out current spot, I came across a bad air leak on the engine belt dump valve. This is the red handled on/off valve part.
Need to replace before moving. Where is a good place to look while in a smaller town (western SD) to get this valve or a suitable replacement? need it today to get on the road and try to skirt some more bad weather.
What are the specification of the in/out of the valve (diameter/thread/etc)?

Unfortunately, I can’t help with that. My valve started leaking a few months back and I was able to keep jiggling it to get it to a spot that wasn’t leaking. If I put it in the closed position it leaked. Maybe you can do that temporarily.
Earlier this year, my air cylinder failed and destroyed two belts before I could get home. It has now been removed and replaced with a heim joint. I much prefer the solid mount to the air cylinder. I don’t have to worry about it failing and not knowing until it tears something up.

thanks dale. Looks like I will just bypass the dump valve for now to get me down the road. Fix it when I get to my destination.

I’m not certain, but I believe the air pressure to the belt bellows is limited to about 60 psi. I’m not certain where the pressure limiting (reducing) valve is…COULD IT BE INCORPORATED IN THE DUMP VALVE? Somebody jump in who knows…that could be a major problem if bypassed.

Charles, not being there it is difficult to offer good advice, but if the leak is out the outlet of the valve itself, plugging it with a 1/8 or 1/4″ plug might get you going again.

the leak was coming from the dump valve handle (big red handle). The pressure valve had been replaced this fall. Hind sight and all… Should have replaced the dump valve as well then.
pulled the dump valve and ran 1/4 hose from the t-fitting that feeds the dump valve into the pressure valve.(gold disc snapped item next to dump valve).
that will hold me till I get to where I am going and.can get a new dump.valve.

That valve is about two hundred dollars from Prevost , if you can not get one I think I have one at ranch Charles

You may be able to tighten the packing in the valve and fix the problem – I’m assuming your valve is same as ours, but that may not be the case. Bleed all air out of the aux system. Then try pulling the red handle off the valve – held on with a phillips or an allen screw, I believe. Then you should see the packing “nut” …it’s really not a nut, but has holes opposite each other to allow a “special” tool to engage them around the valve stem and tighten the packing. Since I didn’t have the “special” tool, I used a small pair of needle nose pliars to engage the holes, and tightened as hard as I could by twisting the handles. A pair of 90 degree needle nose may work better, but the ones I had were to large to fit in the holes. I managed to take up close to a full turn on mine. Re-install the handle, air aux up, and check for the leak w/soapy water. An easy, quick fix that saved enough $$ for a couple of “red pops” at happy hour. Since I tightened ours earlier this spring, we’ve been stationary for over a week at a time not using the aux air compresor, and the belts have held tension. Hope it works for you. Good luck…

Peter, thanks for the offer. talked with Jeff and he has one at the shop. Will get him to send me that one when I get to where I am going.
Removed the dump valve and will take it apart to see what is inside and see if it’s repairable.
Here is what I did to get by for now. No problems for 500 miles, dont see any problems for another 500 to get me to my next stop.
