BBQ in a bay
Posted by Joe on July 26, 2019 at 11:41 amGetting ready to purchase a Prevost and would like to hear how many of you have a dedicated bbq in one of the bays. I am interested in a X3 so it looks like I would sacrifice storage space by doing so. Is it worth it?
Thanks

Personal preference.
The electric cooking machine in the bay of our 1999 has NEVER been used. Never by us, never by the single previous owner.
I don’t grill at home. I don’t cook. I don’t like to cook. Why would I stand outside in often uncomfortable weather (either too hot or too cold) doing something I don’t like to do inside where its likely very comfortable.
But that said … I wouldn’t buy a new coach or an expensive pre-owned coach without one. We see people grilling outside their coaches and motorhomes often. I wonder how they get everything clean.

As said in the previous thread, I grille outside far more often than cooking inside the coach. I guess it depends on what youdo as far as cooking. Truth be told we either eat out when we travel or i grille something. Usually only when we are on the road do we nuke something in the microwave or heat something up in the kitchen.
Again, personal preference.

I don’t particularly like an electric grill, mainly because I like rare steaks, cooked over a sear grill…. charred on the outside and rare on the inside.
We occasionally carry a propane (sear) grill. I’ve seen some built in grills designed for the small propane tanks.
If you do get a reasonably high output electric grill, be aware that they pull a lot of electrical power. In the summertime when running all the air conditioners you may not have enough power from a campground power pole to run the grill. Some have recommended starting up the generator for power since the 20kW generator can put out significantly higher power that the 50 amp campground power pole does.

I took out the Jenn Air electric and reused the cabinet and installed a small Traeger Smoker. It works great, we use it much of the time.

Our coach came with a very nice stainless steel portable electric smokeless grill. We have not used it yet so it’s brand-spanking-new looking.
We really don’t cook, we either eat out or buy cooked food and warm it up in the convection oven if needed. Our cook-top in the coach has never been used either.
In the past, I grilled outside with a small round electric grill when we had the Dynasty but just haven’t gotten around to in in almost 5 yrs. now!
I don’t think I would want a built-in grill even if we grilled unless it was very easy to clean. I can imagine that it might make the inside bay smell if not cleaned thoroughly.
Safe travels,

We full time and we cook on our gas grill as often as possible. It’s much better than any steak or chicken that I could cook on the stove in a pan. We have a portable one on a slide so we can either pull out the slide or move it to a picnic table. This is an infrared grill that gets REALLY hot and does a much better job than any other portable style grill. We could not live without it but then I also had an outdoor grill at our house and we cooked on that in all kinds of weather so we are BIG fans of grilling.

Bill,
Which infrared grill do you have? We have a Texas Sizzler by Golden Blount. It was their ‘portable’, and they don’t make it any more. We love the grill, but it is really heavy to move around. I wonder if you have something lighter?
Thanks!

We had a Solaris but it’s so damned expensive! We found a replacement at Cabela’s that was actually better. Let me see if I can get you the info.

Our portable sear grill looks very similar to this. We have had it for 15 years or so. This one may be the newest model.

We take a green mountain grills Davey Crockett around with us . It’s a pellet pooper and I love it!

I said we has a Solaris but it was really the Solare shown above (actually an exact knockoff).
The grill we have now is Mr Steak. We picked it up at Cabelas and it’s online if you go to the Cabelas site. The smaller one is the single burner and only costs $229. Awesome grill. It’s a bit heavy but I never carry it very far. We took it to the beach the other day to cook some burgers at the beach for lunch! Awesome. MI and Lake MI is a great area to spend the Summer. No resorts for us, we want to be close to the water!

We have a Traeger PTG which is their older pellet grill, the newer version is the ranger grill. They work great and have great taste, and are very simple to use.
