Barometric Pressure Sensor & Harness Failure
Got into Prevost Nashville and the parts were waiting for me thanks to the efforts of John in Jacksonville. I thought this was important enough to post a new thread. If you have a 2000 – 2005 shell, you likely have this Detroit recall already done. I don’t have the exact details, but the recall was to prevent a fire caused by the turbo. It involves a harness, sensor and re-programming of the ECM.
Mine had the recall done, but the harness or sensor has been failing. When this happens, you get a check engine light, my boost gauge went to zero followed by some derating. Each time, the boost came back, but there was a problem for sure. The fix was a new harness and sensor, hopefully it will last awhile.
This is what the harness looks like with sensor, it’s plug and play, about 15 minutes to fix. I have the recall PDF if anyone needs it.

I had the exact same problem on the way to Atlanta last fall. WW Williams in Cartersville diagnosed the problem in 10 minutes. Clarke Power in Ringold had the part the next day. By the way there is a way to bypass that sensor where the turbo will work, the check engine light will go away, but the boost gauge is inoperable. That is what they did so I could continue my trip.

Back in ’05 I had this service bulletin performed on my 2002 Wanderlodge LXi. I had problems with it so I removed the barometric sensor and reconnected the turbo boost sensor to its original connector. The barometric sensor is wired in series with the boost sensor. I thought this workaround might cause the ECU to throw codes and light the CEL, but all was fine – no problems with simply removing the sensor and harness. I was so concerned I asked DDC to down rev my ECU flash but they refused. I need to check, but if my ’04 H3 has not had this SB performed I’m going to skip it.

Agree, John in Jax told me how to bypass it and just connect as orginal and everything went fine with no more codes thrown. You would think they could have come up with a better solution than this harness and sensor that is prone to fail.

If you’re around Springfield, MO and need service or repair on your Series 60, take your coach to American Fleet INC, 2441 E. Jean St, 65803. These guys know S-60 and V92 engines. Gary diagnosed and replaced my barometric pressure sensor and wiring harness in less than an hour. Their prices are more than reasonable too.

O know this is an old thread, but how do I know if my sensor/harness has been replaced? Is there some visible difference that I can tell?

You’re number 2 this week Tom, Tim with my previous Liberty, same problem on Friday. Detroit and Prevost couldn’t help him in Nashville and he was able to hook up with another shop, the owner was at our Bella Terra Rally a few weeks ago and they had him in and out in no time with a new harness.
