Baffled
Posted by Fred on January 4, 2013 at 5:06 pmHi PC,
I have never been able to
lower the rear port side of the bus. After watching Hector’s presentation and running
down the obvious, I heard some air escaping by the drive axel today. I took a look
and I’m not sure why, but one of the hoses on the starboard side (second pic) Norgren value is disconnected
and capped. It’s hard to see but the capped hose is coming off the center of the starboard value and it looks like it’s suppose to be connected (it’s just long enough anyway) into the number 5 hole of the port side (first pic) valve. Any ideas as to why this hose would be disconnected and capped and where it might go to?
Thank you for the help.

From the link above you can access the pneumatic diagram specific to your coach. The one for my 97 coach is now in the possession of “Beardog” otherwise I would pull it out and try to give you an answer. The reason I provide the link which everyone should bookmark is because Prevost has done an excellent job of providing a pneumatic diagram for our coaches that is not only accurate with respect to the path air follows, but the diagram shows the various devices and the fittings and even the orientation of the fittings.
Since you have a Liberty the Prevost pneumatic system has been modified by Liberty to provide the automatic leveling function. The difference is that air exhausted from the rear actually is released by valves in the front steer compartment, specifically in this case by one of the two 3 port Norgren valves that are solenoid operated.
The air path for inflating and deflating the rear air bags is through the 5 port Norgren valves, not the three port valves shown. Two of the three 3 port valves in the rear of your coach maintain an open air path between the tag axle and drive axle air bags, and block that path to exhaust tag axle air bag air when you lift the tag axle. They do not control the lowering at the rear.

Hi Jim, The capped line comes out of the bottom T of the starboard side value.
Thanks Jon, I’ll look that up and see if I can figure out what’s going on. It just seems so odd to me that it would be capped and tied off at all. If you were going to do that, wouldn’t you cap it off at the value itself? Why leave the line attached unless they thought they would be reattaching it at some point. Weird.

Does your tag lift work on that side? or tag air bag just exhaust and not lift? Trace line down from lift air cyl to valve. Like they said ck diag but gives you somewhere to start :could be feed/supply for tag lift. Quick bypass if they were leaking and if memory serves me correct supplies both sides. That is the way my 98XLE is . as far as lowering it is also controlled by nor valves and one thing to ck is make sure your tag is also trying to lower on the side your haveing trouble with. My whole system had been modified and I had to go back to square on and figure it out. People bypass systems to save $ and time but leave us to fugure it out. Just some past experiences. I’m not a Prevost expert! Just under fire experience. Bob

Thanks Bob, ok that’s starting to make a little more sence to me now. It takes a while for my tag to lift but it does and seems to work fine that way. I had all the air bags replaced before I purshased the bus so I’m pretty sure they are not leaking. Is it possible that the starboard side tag bag would lower/lift and not the other side? Everything airs up and lowers ok on all the other parts of the system, its only when I go to lower the port side rear.
I’m also having trouble getting my bus diagrams to come up on the link that Jon posted. I’ll keep trying that too.
Thanks for the info and insight, I appreciate it.

on the prevost site: use last letter of your serial number. in my case was W and last 4 didgets(6553 .So I entered W-6553. My coach is a 98 45 XLE (Entertainer) That I reconverted) The Basics should be the same but like others have said converters and previous owners and mechanics change things. In the articles section there are diagrams other than the presentation. It is hard to coach from a distance but hope it helps you to understand. Bob

I had that same situation on mine. When I changed out the valve for a new one I blocked the port with a plug.
One often finds things like that in life. Just make it right and move on. Wondering why should be saved for political questions.
