  • Backup Lights Remain On

Posted by steve on January 1, 2017 at 9:55 pm

Geez, can`t just drive n reverse all the way home. Stopped for the night in Perry, Ga and did the walk around, noticed with starter key in on position reverse lights always on. Anyone know which relay to pull or what might cause it ? Thanks.

If you pull relay R9 in the rear junction box over the engine you will kill kill the lights and the back-up beeper. That would be the most likely cause.

Does that R9 also work on a 1991 model XL model. Wife said my backup lights weren’t working the last time out and come to think of it the beeper wasn’t either. Will have to get over to coach in the next day or two and check.

It is likely the same relay number will work. Prevost has been superb at maintaining consistency is wire, relay and CB numbers regardless of the vintage of coach.

Yes, It should be the same on the 91 XL. A reverse sigmal is sent from the World Transmission to the VIM box. From there the signal is sent ot the rear of the vehicle to energize R9 that lights up the back up lights and energizes the back up alarm. Most of the motor home shells cme with a back up alarm cancel switch on the dash to stop it from operating when you are trying to aprk late at night.

Yes, mine has the cancel switch on the dashboard. Will check the relay/breaker and see if that’s the culprit on the no workie. It used to for sure. Kinda obnoxious with the beep but handy as everybody gives a heads up when backing. Thanks for the info.
