Auxiliary air
Posted by Paul on May 1, 2022 at 7:13 amI hope this is not the kiss of death ,or am I bragging but after many days we took the coach out for a little exercise and now 1 week later auxiliary air is holding pressure. Engine belts nice and snug .Just happy lots of work is paying off for time being.

Are those push to fit fittings I see you installed. That is indeed puzzling……
I do not use this process, block valves, to find leaks, but if it works, why not. I am not patient enough to wait to see if closing a valve stops the leaks. The process I use does take additional effort, but the results are worth the effort. But I do like the words “bubble tight“.
Nice to see pictures of the new (to you) bus components.
I wonder how different the XL II suspension is from the XL suspension system.
Any comments?

I just recently used a couple DOT press on fittings and I believe they are much improved over the old stuff. No leaks, so who knows…

The only fittings that would work on the small manifold were swivel type 90 degree. Since I have not found a single leak in any of the push in DOT fittings in the steer compartment I opted to go with them for the project. Keeping my fingers crossed.
The suspension system does have differences between yours and my previous one. I cannot find a 5 port for the steer axle is the most obvious difference but I have not studied it yet beyond noting that change.

Good to hear of your experience with the push to fit fittings. I am one that thinks they work fine, while they are new. My experience has shown that after 10 plus years of service, the rubber orings that provide the seal offer opportunities for minor leaks. It will be a good counterpoint to see how these fittings hold up over the long term.

If I have to replace the push in fittings at some point due to leakage I will go back to compression fittings. If it gets to that point I will have to eliminate the manifold block and use some other means of plumbing the “home runs”.
I already know one of the house circuits (only) has a leak. That will be on my list after a return from OKC. I found it by shutting the valve and opening it an hour later. Don’t know which devices that circuit covers yet.

“Don’t know which devices that circuit covers yet.” … I have under advisement, a good source, that tells me the exact location of the leak, which I can locate or pinpoint for you … for uh …. 12.7 gallons of diesel. The best part is this … you won’t have to wait one hour Jon, think about it.
If the gaskets on the lines do deteriorate and crap out after ten years, it is no big deal. Just think of how many worry free miles you will have put down by that time … That is something.

It’s fun to see photos of how people do different projects, thanks for posting.
A couple of things caught my eye;
First, I have found even some (very few) new ball valves leak, so be sure to check them before hooking up the lines. I put small balloons on them to see if they inflate.
Second, you’ll probably have another bus found by the time you switch to compression fittings. 🙂

Dale, I fully agree, but for my purposes if any of the ball valves leaks the leak will be small. As I intend to use them I will shut off air to an accessory device or system. If that device or system is leaking the small amount the ball valve leaks is unlikely to maintain pressure in the system so when I open the valve I will hear air flow signaling that is the device or system that is leaking.
If I turn the valve off to service the leaky device or system even if the valve leaks a little, I will still be able to maintain air in the rest of the coach. This is a more important feature on a coach with slides because if the coach is outside when I am servicing a leak the slide seals will remain inflated keeping rain out.
So far every type valve I have on the coach has leaked at one time or another so whether I use ball valves, petcocks or any other type valve as has been used in various points on the coach I am still facing the potential for leaks.
