    We had similar aux air problem….check valve replaced….left California…still had problems.

    Prevost Houston reviewed the repair and noticed new check valve was upside down…sigh.

    Hurry up July and ‘Know Your Prevost’ weekend!!

    If the check valve was reversed then you have or did have Prevost air filling your system.

    When the bus was running air was exhausted out the intake filter of the AUX compressor. ….Interesting

    i did some further trouble shooting. I connected the Prevost and Marathon systems together to pressurize the Aux Air Tank. Then I isolated the two systems. No air leaks on the Marathon side that I could detect. I bled the Marathon system down. Then I reset the Aux Compressor circuit breaker. The Aux Compressor ran, expelling air through the muffler, but did not pump up the Aux Air Tank. I plan to order a repair kit today for the Aux Compressor. We will see if the compressor rebuild solves the problem.

    Tad,

    I still want to know how they told you to drain the Marathon air tank in the steering bay? The Prevost side has a drain in the Norgren filter, we all know that, but a second drain for the Marathon side! Al found his drain under the tank after removing the fender, so sure would like to know how they drain it from the steering bay.

    Hello All,

    I bought a rebuild kit for the Gast Aux Compressor. When I took the compressor head apart, which was very straightforward , I found some broken reed valves. I installed the new parts and reassembled the head. The aux compressor is back in business! Thank you for all your help and advice.

    Tad,

    While out at our bus I saw what you are referring to the ” two lines drain” in drivers bay. The double drain line meeting near the floor in drivers bay is mainly on the Prevost side air.

    This I think has given owners a false believe that you are draining air / moister from AUX . When I opened the drain valve you’ll see the Prevost gauge deflate along with AUX gauge air only.

    In order to purge the AUX tank of moister you might look for AUX tank drain valve. When opened it exhaust AUX moister only.

    My tank drain is located in the generator bay.

    Like Tad I am a new Marathon owner. My aux compressor was also running constantly. I detected a leak at the valve in the gen compartment above the compressor. I have attached a photo of the regulator that is leaking. Do I need to replace the push fittings and brass connectors while I am at it?

    Hi Al- I have a similar drain valve in my Generator Compartment. The plumbing comes from somewhere above the left front fender. Have I found my Aux Compressor tank drain

    Hi Larry,

    Pretty common leak at regulator in generator compartment as it lives in a hot box.

    Do you have a replacement regulator ? This location it requires a SMC heat relieving regulator replacement.

    Another thing while you have your system drained would be replacement of AUX compressor check valve.

    Let me know if you need a source for regulator I have the correct part number. Part number changed 2013.

    Price is around $15 plus shipping.

    Check valve is available from Grainger.

    BTW……AUX compressors check valves should be replaced every 2 years.

    To answer your question about push fittings, I would replace them. Trim hose about 1/4 inch

    past the seal line from prior connection

    Common problem with those air bag regulators, like BA said, replace it.

    Hi Al,

    Thank you for your reply. I do need to buy a regulator and would appreciate the part number. I will replace the push valves while I am at it. I am not sure what/where the check valve is but will replace while the system is drained.

    Tad,

    That should be your tank drain. When I opened mine it was a rust -water stream. You should hear the AUX

    compressor come when air reserve cut in switch senses 80-85 lbs.

    If drain plugs up as mine did , you’ll need to blow air into drain line to re-open.

    Here is location of the AUX check valve. Available from Grainger.

    Part number 6D914….. 1/4 male NPT X 1/4 male NPT. Carry a spare as this is the number one leak in AUX system.

    Heat relieving regulator part number is… SMC AR20-N01H-Z Available from SMC dealer here in KC.

    Ask for Brian or Todd. I spoke to Brian today to verify the SMC number.

    Use your credit card and ship direct to you. They are very helpful with reasonable prices.

    You can also get the push fittings from them. The hose should be 3/8 inch. Send them a picture of the set up.

    Their main business is custom manufacture / assembly of air and fluid components.

    ….before you open the system you could unscrew the intake air cleaner which is pictured at 3 o’clock position. Put a fitting in, attach a balloon, secure with rubber band. If the check valve leaks the balloon will inflate overnight. Of course if you have an electronic leak detector that reading will ring the alarm.

    MAKE SURE YOU DISABLE THE AUX COMPRESSOR WHILE DOING THIS TEST

    The possible reason for that check valve to be a failure point is heat.

    Run the compressor and try to hold your hand on the check valve. If you cannot do so without getting burned, consider relocating the valve or getting one with high temperature specs. Use an IR temperature gun to find out how hot it gets at that location.
