  • Aquahot Exhaust on the Ground

Posted by Davy on March 8, 2012 at 10:59 pm

I was doing a walk around this morning before starting the bus and found the end of my Aquahot exhaust on the ground. It ends just in front the drive tires on the driver’s side and I had been working in that area yesterday so it must have happened overnight.

There is a bracket mounted to the bottom of the bus and a bracket around the exhaust pipe. There was a rubber thingamahoochie connecting the two. The rubber piece is what broke. I have pictures but can’t load them at the moment.

I wired and it up for travel by need to secure it properly. Is the rubber thing a part I can find? Do I replace the brackets?

    Thanks,

    DKO

OK, let’s try the pictures again.

Here is the bracket on the exhaust pipe…

Th is the bracket mounted to the bus. It still has the rubber piece attatched….

This is the temporary fix for travel only… The bungie strap was for insurance…

The bracket looks like a what they call universal exhaust hanger bracket. Go over to NAPA and in there exhaust catalog you can find a number of exhaust pipe supports.

If your unable to find rubber pieces, mud flaps are the choice for making those. Using rubber rings found on lots of late model cars can also take the place of firm support hanger/brackets. They elimanate vibration.

    DKO,

Looks like a simple, quick, inexpensive fix for nearly any muffler/exhaust shop. The most difficult part will be finding a safe way for them to gain access underneath the bus. I recommend taking this project to a shop because they will know the safest way to do the repair, as it looks like the original mount was placing a lot of stress on the rubber portion. Generally the rubber hangs straight down, but in this case it looks like the pipe was hanging from the rubber at a sharp angle. It also looks like the pipe has been rubbing into the spray foam on the bottom of the bus. A good shop can route the pipe best to reduce the likelihood of rubbing.

Hope you have a quick and easy fix and thanks for sharing the pictures with your post it really helps,

    Brian
