Hi Larry,
Not using the burner is a sure fire way to shorten the interval between annual maintenance services. So I am joining the folks that guess a good start that may indeed fix the situation is a thorough annual service procedure.
Running the burner through one heating cycle once per month or more is very good for long lived burner operation. Regular running can allow putting off annual service for 2, 3 and maybe 4 years.
As long as the exhaust is clear, vapor free and does not smell, there is no compelling operational reason to perform annual service.
If you can do the annual service procedure, I will glad to suggest some steps to not skip that will give you the best results possible. Annual service is more than just new filter and nozzle.
Happy New Year and all the best.

Larry,
I am leaving to fix a heater and will be gone till later in the afternoon. So, I do have time to talk to you on the phone but I do not have time to reply back and forth over the forum and I am not going to be here.
Once done, we can post the effort and results then for the other folks to hear.
The one thing I have thought of that fits the sympthom of no smoke in the exhaust and suddenly not firing is an open High Limit Thermostat. So, that will be the first thing we check based on our phone call.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Rudy
