  • Anything new on the aviation front amongst us?

Posted by John on October 29, 2020 at 5:31 pm

A couple of things for me new on the aviation page and I just got to wondering about the others amongst us.

As of the 9th of November we’re going to be taking up residence in the Wing South Airpark community in Naples and are excited about it. Gonna have a nice home with an attached hangar where I can house airplanes and have a pretty decent shop facility.

Have just done some neat avionics upgrades on the 310 with glass instrumentation and a Garmin GTN 750xi plus a new autopilot. Looking forward to taking some trips to Key west and over to the islands.

If you happen to be in the area stop in and we’ll make it our business to have a good time.

Congratulations, that is awesome. I tried to find a place in there for quite awhile. I ended up getting a hangar at KAPF. I have a Challenger 300 and I fly an Airbus H130 helicopter. I go back and forth between Naples and Indiana. Maybe I’ll catch up with you this winter.

John, I’ll be wandering around Florida by car for most of December. I’ll give you a call when I head down and we can meet up!

    Cool!! Come on over.

I think we’re gonna have some good times. I’ve lived on a private airport or in an airport community all of my adult life and it’s always been a good deal. I think that this is going to be the best yet. Flying, hangar flying and a really good cigar and a little real good sipping every now and then, and a good shop to keep it all going to boot. Ahh, life is good.

I just got the 195 back together after installing a new C&D heater. I now think that is going to prove to be a waste of time and effort. I don’t think it’ll be needed where you don’t even wear long pants.

Wing South has in the past had a fly-in every year that has gotten to be a really top notch event. This past year it had to be cancelled due to the circumstances of 2020 but I think that it’ll happen this year. I’ll post info as it becomes available.

Looks like I’ll be headed south on Monday, John. I’ll probably wander the state for about a month. I have the bus torn up again for some projects, so I think it’ll be a road trip in the ’74 Cadillac. I’ll let you know when I hit Florida.

The Cessna 195 is one of my favorites too. I got a ride in one once.

If I had all the $$$ Tom is getting from PC dues, I’d get me a Beech Stagger Wing or two

If I had all the dues money I am owed I would have one of my people fly me in a staggerwing.

I grew up on tail draggers and the arrogance in me suggests if you cannot fly a tail dragger you ain’t a pilot.

    Do I hear an amen?

    AMEN!

I still watch the tail when someone is on short final to see if the rudder wiggles telling me the pilot was making sure his feet were awake. Loved watching the TV show Black Sheep when the Corsairs were on final and the rudder would wiggle.

A friend was selling his 170 and said a L-1011 pilot was coming to look at it. Went to the airport to see if the heavy driver was a real pilot with the tail dragger. L-1011 jockey was real smooth. A friend with me ask him ,after he shut down ,when the last time he flew a tail dragger and he said last weekend when he took Miss America out for a spin. Yep, THAT Miss America, the P-51.

My neighbor across the street provides mx and pilot service for someone here that is NOT a pilot, yet owns a P-51. My neighbor takes this persons P-51 out occasionally to exercise it. I let my neighbor know that if he ever needs some ballast in the back seat I’ll make myself available 🙂

The only thing new are these two idiots that destroyed a 182.

New on the aviation front… I just upgraded to Captain on the B717!

Sad to say that I’ve never flown a tailwheel aircraft though…and don’t get to do aerobatics very often in the airliners.

    Anything new?

The pool of insurance companies for aviation keeps getting smaller, the ones remaining are more demanding and reluctant to write new policies.

It took me almost a month to get a quote on a TBM700, single turbine engine.

Mikee did you know Jim Nemec? He sold quite a few MU-2s in the 70’s and 80’s. First as a salesman for a dealer, then for Mitsubishi direct out of Clintonville WI and then Indianapolis. He then became involved in Jet Air of Clintonville and Green Bay.
