Anyone updated Dometic thermostats?
My ’06 Royale originally had two 5-button Dometic thermostats like the white one below. One on the bedroom controlling the rear roof air, and one upfront controlling the front and mid roof airs using Zone 1 and Zone 2 on the thermostat.
A year or so ago Jeff replaced the rear unit, which required changing the rear thermostat to the newer 10-button unit shown in black below.
We prefer the newer thermostat, it’s easier to read. Also, I am reconfiguring the cabinet where the front thermostat is as part of updating the Silverleaf display to the HMS365 color touchscreen.
The form factors of the old and new thermostats is so different I am making some layout changes in the cabinet for the newer thermostats. I suspect at some point I’ll have to replace the forward two AC units, but I’d like to switch out the thermostats now.
I tried just plugging the “phone” cable from the old thermostat into the new one, and it powers up, but throws an E1 error code.
The Dometic Circuit Boards” were replaced in 2016 (PN 3312020.000) which is supposedly compatible with the new thermostats.
Any insights for anyone? Jeff?
Is it a DIP switch issue? If so, where are they?

Dometic has gone through some tough transitions and they are streamlining the product line from hundreds of potential numbers down to a few. I will say, the last experience with tech support was VERY good.
Having recently updated all 3 heat pumps, I’ve done a little research. The 15K High Capacity heat pump units 651916 (Built-in control board for new single-zone t-stat) and 651816 (Built-in control board for multi-zone t-stat) are ones to look at. The 651916 does not have connections on the control board for a remote interior thermostat and does not have the two plugs for load shedding if you are using them. It also will only use the SZL t-stat which is a 3 wire arrangement. It will not use the multi-zone 10 button stat.
If you have telephone cable and don’t want to switch any wires, or need any of the functions listed above, use the 651816.
There are retrofit control boards to go from old 5 button stats to the new 10 button t-stat. About $100.
Similar numbering philosophy for the 13.5K units. If you need help with those numbers, give me a call. 304-646-4727. I have them written down in the shop somewhere. You are correct about old/new throwing an error code. They are not compatible.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to have Jeff install the appropriate control board in the units, or replace the units.

Does anyone know if the Dometic “Control Touch” series is compatible?

Every different thermostat has to match the AC board in it. That smart touch sounds like it ties to all the systems, not sure how it works?
