Anyone in the Florida Keys?
Hello All,
I haven’t been on here in a while so much has happened since my last “HELP” post. We just decided to take the coach to Donnie Meyers after our trip to Destin in August. We drove our “Mudder Home”(2003 Beaver) to his shop to pick her up a couple of weeks ago on our way down to our for our extra long stay in Marathon, FL.We have only seen 2 Prevost coaches and I thought we would have seen more. We love where we stay but it is getting harder and harder to secure a spot because they are closing the camp across the water from us. We have toured a couple of “RV Resorts” but have been super disappointed.
I was just curious if anyone else comes here this time of year.
We are here from Nov 13 – Jan 1.

BTW- Super happy with everything Donnie did to our coach. We will be taking it back to him after the Daytona 500 to get interior stuff and some more awesome upgrades done. Trying to talk Butch into the front and rear clips, new fenders and the awning up top re-do! With building our 7,000 st ft garage he just won’t commit. What a project that has been. We start framing Thursday!

Check out Venture Out on Summerland Key or Cudjoe Key. My aunt and uncle for the fifth residents when it was originally built. We stayed there a year ago for five days and found it to be a great location, the people friendly, and reasonably priced. Just keep in mind it was built before anyone even thought about a 38′ motorhome and things are a touch tight. But with some planning, forethought, a good spotter, and patience you can get in and out without too much trouble.
If you’re looking for good food, check out the Barracuda Grill on Marathon. Great place. Good food. Excellent owners.

Thanks. I think we checked that out last year and felt it would be difficult with a Toad. If its the same place they had a lot of spots including tents. We really prefer places that don’t allow tents or 5th wheels. We tend to gravitate to Motorcoach only parks. I guess less kids. Heck we stayed at that Camp Gulf this summer and didn’t care that place one bit. OMG it was so tight. But so many people had yelped it. We have learned when they say Big Rigs welcome it doesn’t really mean us with a toad. LOL.
We have become super picky because we have 4 small dogs that aren’t kid friendly and they seem to draw the small kids attention. It’s just stressful on us the dogs.
I guess we are RV Resort Snobs. LOL.
We have been coming to Marathon for 14 years to fish with a captain here. We love the local spots. Burdines Tiki Bar is to die for. If you haven’t been there its a must!

Venture out is NOT the place we toured last year. I will look into it.

Unless we know there are lots of 45′ coaches in a park or resort, we have learned to unhook the toad and Cathie goes ahead with a radio and gets drives to our site. Then she walks back towards me as I slowly drive the coach in and we talk through approaching the site. We’ve discovered that even if the site is advertised as a “drive-through”, getting in often entails having to back up a few feet once or twice which makes having the toad hooked on awkward.
When we went to Venture Out last year I think we unhooked just inside the gate. They had a huge parking lot near the gate so I parked the coach and drive back to the site in the toad. Parking took a little work, but we made it in fine. The only issue we had is that many of the sites including the one we were assigned to are short for a 45′ coach so we hung over a little bit both front and rear. A full timer helped guide me and said “don’t worry about hanging over, we’re all pretty easy going here.”
As I understand it, all the lots in Venture Out are owned by individuals. Some are snowbirds, some are full-timers. Some of the lots have “park models” on them (both with and without “linai rooms”), others have motorhomes of various sizes. I don’t recall seeing any tents or popups, I suspect they have been outlawed from day one.
What I liked about Venture Out the first time I visited my aunt and uncle back in teh late 70’s is something I like today … its only 25 miles or so from Key West! Plus you’ll find all the lots are on water.
