Anyone Carry Spare Inverter Cooling Fan?
Does anyone carry a spare inverter cooling fan??? Just in case…???
Ha! Just kidding! But I did change out both of my 2006 year model Outback inverter cooling fans after contacting and buying from the great Prevost Community sponsor in White House, Tennessee – Inverter Service Center. TRULY GREAT & HELPFUL FOLKS with parts ready to ship out. If you have questions, they have answers.
Why did I change them out? One showed the error of “Internal Fan Failure Detected” and after installing the new one and listening to it purrrrr, I went ahead and changed out the other one as it sounded like a failing engine belt pulley.

One of the most under appreciated components on our coaches is the inverter cooling fan.
This is especially true if a coach owner runs A/C units through inverters instead of running the generator when the A/Cs are required. The harder the inverter works the more heat it generates and the more important a fan becomes to remove that heat.

i dont carry an extra inverter fan. . and inverters do run notoriously hot. My inverter bay had a fan that ran all the time, but i recently put a temp sensor/fan on the unit so that it only comes on when the bay reaches 85 (no point having it run when its 40 outside). But even if that fan runs, if the inverter fan goes out – the inverter will be running too hot and will almost definitely derate itself. .

Just to stir the pot, I hope all you guys that think running A/Cs through inverters is OK instead of starting your generators realize there is likely a short span between fan failure and inverter damage.
And just to add more for you to consider, the alternator is replacing that battery power as you drive. The greater you load the alternator, the greater the heat it has to deal with.
In the meantime you all have perfectly fine generators you are dragging around everywhere you go, not being used to do work that will not even make the generator work hard.

the only time that I think you would water ac on inverter power is if you dry camp extensively and those areas do not allow generators to be run after a certain amount fo time. then it might make some sense to do so – you know – to keep your marriage alive. . lol. but generally you dont want to run AC through inverters if you dont have to.
