  • Any news on Naples Resorts

Was wondering if anyone has any update on how Naples MotorCoach Resort or Pelican Lake made it through this terrible storm? Definitely praying for those that live in that area, can’t imagine what they have gone through and what’s ahead for them! ??

Friends that rode out Hurricane Ian at Pelican Lake Motorcoach Resort reported that although it is currently without Power (as is most of the area)…there weren’t any Coaches, Coach houses nor did the Clubhouse take any water damage from flooding or winds. We’ve received photos of many of the lots; and some videos of the roads immediately after the storm passed and other than 3-5′ of water in the streets and up some drives – there hasn’t been any structural damage. Because of how heavily landscaped the Resort (think “Maui of the Mainland”) is – there will be a lot of vegetation and Palm debris cleanup. But, KW Management, Greenscapes Landscaping and John Jarrett are already on site clearing drains and tackling the worst of the debris.

Considering how much and how severe the flooding was throughout Marco Island, Downtown Naples and everywhere beachfront…Pelican Lake came through relatively unscathed! Fortunately, it is built up pretty high compared to most residential, much less, commercial properties in the surrounding area.

Unfortunately, as much cannot be said for most areas North (e.g., North Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, especially Sanibel/Captiva and Fort Myers Beach, etc.) and inland as Ian made its way across the state before exiting into the Atlantic and setting its sights on the Carolinas (prayers for all who suffered devastation, lost loved ones – or, may yet still be within its path!).

Ian was such a Huge and slow moving hurricane that the entirety of 2004’s Hurricane Charley easily fit just within the eye of Ian. And, Ian took more than 24-hours in making its way across state! This is going to be a decade-long recovery and rebuild for much of SW Florida.

Interestingly, Pelican Lake, other Class-A and local campgrounds might be just the ticket for those wishing to reside in beautiful SW Florida while reconstructing their homes…for those fortunate enough to have an RV, 5th wheel, etc.

The mental and intestinal fortitude of so many Floridians is that an occasional hurricane and rebuild is a price worth paying to reside in Paradise! Stay safe and God Bless All.
