  • Antifreeze Maintance ?

Posted by Art on June 24, 2020 at 9:20 am

I changed and flushed antifreeze a couple of years, and I went to extended life antifreeze with SCA charged in it, I installed a blank antifreeze filter, I’ve heard you check the level or PH of antifreeze??

The manufacturer of the coolant should have some instructions or documentation for checking. What is for certain is that adding SCAs via the coolant cartridge or additive converts the coolant to a 2 year coolant.

Art, Prestone Command is NOT an extended life coolant(ELC), it is a HD conventional 2 yr coolant.

    PRESTONE LINK

Send a sample off to a lab like OAI-Oil Analyzers Inc, or DDC kit# DDE 23516921, and send it off for analysis.

My guess is your coolant will still be good, but the SCA charge will need replenishing with a “Need release” filter like a Fleetguard# WF2131, or Penray# NF2088SM.

I have had this same coolant in my bus for 3 yrs. I installed a need release filter 14 mths ago. Last analysis was done 12 mths ago. All was good. I’ll be sending another sample to OAI for analysis soon.

Marketing mumbo jumbo. Prestone ESI-“extended service interval” is not the same as ELC-“extended life coolant”

ELC(extended life coolant) coolants are OAT-organic additive technology.
