Antifreeze level
My wife and I bought our first Prevost in May this year. It is a 1996 Vogue XL 40. I have learned a lot both by hands on experience as well as reading numerous threads here on PC. We are about to take our second lengthy trip from Lubbock, Texas to Asheville NC via interstate 40ish. Can anyone tell me if the antifreeze surge tank is like that of a car in that when the engine warms up to “operating temperature”, as stated in the maintenance manual, does the antifreeze level go up? Reason I ask is that the level seems to be low when viewed through the round surge tank site glass when the engine is cold. The maintenance manual says to check the level daily insuring the tank is full. Another area says the engine should warm up to operating temperature before testing the antifreeze. BTW, if you bring the engine up to operating temp, how can you open the surge tank’s radiator cap to test it? I have read Jon’s posts about which type antifreeze to use – very good information! Please help a newbie out.
