Another Prevost Bus Sighting
Hi guys,
Stopped into the Valley River RV Resort here in Murphy, NC and lo and behold there’s a 2004 Prevost with a salon slide.

It’s kind of funny Glens, I use to never see them now I see them in a little place like Murphy, NC. My working theory is they’ve heard that I’m here.

Love seeing the coaches and sure most folks don’t mind the shots of there rides. Keep up the good work and as soon as I get my Carrier OTR AC compressor back into coach and lined out, might see you out on the road.

Glens that would be terrific and something I’ll hold you too. I have to have Jeff take another look at my OTR. It worked great when I bought it but when I went to use it again it was a no go.
As the past owner was showing me the OTR bay he talked about how to buy the refrigerant because it was so expensive through a dealer. I wonder if my problem is a leak and that was his way of telling me?

I was getting tired of having someone refill the OTR every 2-3 years. So I bought 30 lbs of R134a for $140 on Amazon plus a set of A/C gauges from Harbor Freight and you are all set.
It takes about 24 lbs to fill completely on my 1999. To get the last few pounds into the system you’ll have to put the refrigerant container into a warm water bath (but no more than 125 degrees!). This last step is usually omitted, so you never really get a full charge. There are several posts that outline the process step by step.

Hi ThreeGreens, I think I’ll start there. I’ll try to find the step by step guide and try that very thing. Is there a way to spot a leak other then the loss of coolant? Probably a dumb question but thought I’d ask?

I know you can throw a ton of money into the OTR but not having it is a pita. Take it in to Prevost Harry and expect a 15 or 20 grand change over from 12 to 134A. And that could be a low estimate if they have to remove converter built compartments to get to some of the hoses. That’s the ballpark they give me. Heck my coach ain’t worth that deal. Mine was converted about 5 years ago and my seal started leaking on compressor last season. You can tell by oil and dirt build up around and behind back of pulley on compressor. If like my cruise air leaking problem, a good bottle of soap spray and the bubble check works wonders. King valves a leaking around stems . Had to replace one. Have a high dollar freon leak tester and all they do is frustrate you. Squealing and still don’t know where leaks at. The bubbles don’t lie.

$15,000 to $20,000 grand wow, that’s almost as much as Jeff charges for inspection.
I’m note sure why I’d consider switching over to 134A? I know I’ll get some flack for adding “The Bus did just fine going down the road with the gen on and the air conditioners running”! I will find out why it’s not working however?
I don’t like having something on the bus that’s not working. But I’m not spending another $20 grand to fix something I can work around. Unlike you guys I’m a PPO, “Prevost Piker Owner”! Some of you even drive around with a series 60 engine… What’s that about?

Left Colby, KS at 6:00 am headed west bound I-70. About 20 minutes out spotted Prevost entertainer bus, followed by another east bound. No big deal……But then another and another and with-in 100 miles total count.. 24.
Mostly XL-II and few H3-45. Dead give-away 5 A/C units on top.
In 18 years of RV travel I have never seen a herd of Prevost that size.
Probably some large event Saturday night Denver area.

Similar on I-75 on Monday, must have seen 10 or more buses heading south and each one had a pickup with gold carts in the back. All motorhomes, not entertainers.

That’s usually the way NASCAR boys run. Pickups with carts in the back.

Joliet, IL to Daytona Beach would take the NASCAR boys down I-75.
BTW, the last lap of the Chicagoland Speedway race was the best I’ve seen in a long while.
