An out of the box thought and solution
Perhaps, this is another useless idea but it works great for me/us.
The problem being, how to obtain the fastest Internet service while travelling.
I am probably in the minority having this need but since we do still operate a business while we travel. We need Internet access on a more or less daily basis and often times, just so we can do online banking to ppay vendors.
Most people are happy with whatever cellular or hotspot services they have. This used to apply to us, too, because we do have unlimited service with Verizon Verizonand AT&T (the truly unlimited type that is no longer available).
However, once you start to travel, you will be in areas with poor or no service. Cannot do anything about no service but there is a work-around for poor service, as long as you stay for a while and you are willing to pay for the solution.
What is this solution?
It is called Cable Modem.
When we spent 4 months in Florida this past winter, I contacted Comcast who is the service provider for Cable-TV at Pelican Lake in Naples.
They promptly came out to our site and installed a high-speed data modem, which we enjoyed for about $120 per month while there.
Currently, we are in Page, Arizona on Lake Powell. The RV Park is really great but Internet service sucks, greatly. That is to say, our Verizon and AT&T Hotspot sometimes work and most times just barely where you can go and brew coffee while you wait for a connection.
Since we are staying for 2 weeks only, I tried to shrug it off and live with it since Googling the issue told me there is no solution from any of the cellular carriers.
However, I called the RV resort where we will be staying next near Zion and was informed, that the cellular service is very unreliable. Since they do offer cable TV and park WiFi, I asked them for the name of their service provider and contacted them.
At first, they were not quite sure what I was trying to accomplish but once they understood, they were eager to help. So, next week, they will come out to the site and install a high-speed modem at our site for the 2 weeks we will be staying at the resort.
Cost? $100 installation plus $35 pro-rated service cost for 2 weeks.
Call me nuts but if you really really want to have Internet service, you may want to remember this solution.
Cheers,
Ronald
