An alternative Michelin Tire
Did some new drives and tags last year, just got around to posting. Went with the Michelin Multi – Z an alternative proposed by the Michelin guy that used to post here sometimes. He posted once they could be a good option for those who wore out their drive tires. Seemed like a knowledgable guy but could never get him to post and answer to questions.
Bought these because of slightly deeper tread in specs, I wore out my last set of drives almost to the wear bars. Likely due to heavy retarder use – both driving and stopping the bus with 4 tires, I rarely use the brakes except for the last bit of stopping. Was concerned because the Michelin literature says in one spot RV – “YES” and another listing says RV – “NO” . Called Michelin – person there knew about as much as a box of rocks. Decided to go for it. Price was about the same as the traditional tire we have been using.
Pleasantly surprised by the much wider tread surface (see photos.) Was concerned of overall width and clearance, but the widest part at sidewall measures the same as the old tires. Also was concerned of noise and ride, very pleasantly surprised there – no discernable change in noise level, and if anything they ride more smoothly. Also, they look kinda cool. Sort of a poor man’s 365 – at least looks wise, no increase in load capacity. We’ll see how they do after a few years and some miles.
