After a refrigerator opening unexpected while traveling I built this safety closer for our Amana side by side.
Marathon factory installs a electric magnetic closer which engages when the transmission is put in gear. If released while bus is in motion it must be manually reset. Plates are mounted on the bottom of both doors attaching to round pads.

PVC pipe is 1/2 inch and matching connectors. Plastic Dip Coat is available at NAPA. Did two (2) dips 24 hours apart. You could paint the PVC or just leave it as-is white. Plastic coat adds a slight cushion, does’nt chip.
Picture shows a joint sleeve on the left side. That was added to take up some slack when it drops into place just allowing slight wiggle room.

Over the years one of the most common repairs I have made involves those latches. Either the long plastic catch breaks at one of the screw holes or the spring latch portion breaks. Until I get it fixed a door or drawer tends to open or flop around while driving so that is a repair I do ASAP.
The second most common on-the-road repair is a relay failure. So I also carry spares of my relays including the big silver “cans” that look like an old car starter solenoid.
Other than those spares I am carrying less and less parts to repair the coach. Mainly because I am just not going to be crawling around doing repairs while traveling. I have a cell phone now, and if i need help I will actually turn it on.
