alternator surging
I own a 91 Marathon on the Prevost chassis. When departing on a trip after being on shore power and the house and chassis batteries fully charged I get a surging in the 24 volt side of the system. My voltmeter moves from about 24 to 26 volts and all lights in the dash, headlights, and blower fans surge with the increased voltage. If I disconnect my shore power an hour or so early before departing this does not happen. It then occasionally happens during a trip. I replaced my voltage regulator about two years ago. Anybody have any suggestions to stop this surging?

You could have a bad voltage regulator. Rick

Check you ground you may have lost ground to the alternator.

I had the same thing happening on my 97 Marathon. I installed a Guest charger and if I left the power breaker on for the charger while the bus was running, I would get the same thing you are seeing. Don’t ask me how that worked, but it did.

I lost one of the three legs on the alternator and it did that. I had enough output power to handle my loads so I did not stop to deal with it until I got home. But as others have said it could be other issues as well.
