Alternator or electrical problem
On the way back last weekend noticed my bus air on passenger cut off and then I looked at the voltage gauge and it dropped down to 22 volts. Pulled in rest area and the positive cable back of alternator was melted off. It look like a mig welder got ahold of it-It melted the stud off the back of the alternator where the cable attaches.It continued to run until I could get it home. How can I check the alternator and voltage regulator to see what caused it? Has new starting batteries but house batteries may need to be exchanged. Would bad house batteries cause this or bad voltage regulator or bad alternator? Anyone have any suggestions?

This is just a guess without seeing it, but I suspect a loose or bad connection at that point caused the problem. Anytime you have tight secure connections current is carried without any issues, but as connections get loose or otherwise restrict the flow of current heat builds to the point where it can literally melt the metal terminal, wire, or in this case the stud.
I do not suspect an issue like over voltage because you should have gotten an indicator light on the dash but I do wonder why you did not get one for low voltage as the connection point was failing.

Those cables are known to loosen and should be checked occasionally. Mine loosened but I caught the problem before any welding occured.
