    Does Anyone know how much fluid an Allison transmission will hold on refill when changing fluid and filters with 2 inch sump. Thanks Jim

    Approximately 31 qts for fluid and filters change.

    Last time I changed transmission fluid and filters it took 7 gallons of Transynd to refill.

    Last time for me was 7 gallons also. Not sure of my sump size (I think it’s the small one), but I have retarder.

    Which brings up an interesting question…sorry for the slight thread creep. I believe there is a higher capacity sump which, in theory, would lengthen the needed interval for fluid change and potentially keep fluid temps cooler and/or more uniform during retarder operation. Does anyone know what’s involved in changing to the larger sump?

    good point, but I think there’s a crossmember directly in front of the pan which may offer some protection.
