I’ll confirm that he brings his computer with him. I know he said he would hook his computer up and check all three sensors prior to swapping out, but I basically said bring all three and install them. No reason to not swap them all out. They are all the same age, I am paying for him to get in there, they have all three in stock, might as well swap them all out with new. Dont want to get down the road and have an issue with one of the other two.
This is Allison and not a certified service/dealer/parts supplier. The one dealer/parts/service center nearby ran me through hoops today. First wanted the serial number to see if they had the parts I was asking about. Then didnt return my call to the service team. Finally drove up there and checked again on the parts, still no good, they needed the serial number… Service guy comes out and tells me he doesn’t have any one available today. Then comes back a couple seconds later.. “Oh and we actually dont have any field allison techs, so we couldn’t help you out anyways”…
Once I get the serial number, call them back about the parts and the guy doesn’t even look them up. Tells me he doesn’t cally sensors in stock. Just filters and seals. Im thinking the figured if I towed the coach the 15 miles up the road and let them have it for a couple weeks, they would be able to get the parts in by then?

Charles,
You can raise the tail with aux pressure. Adjust you aux compressor pressure switch to the highest allowed and build aux pressure. Key on, set the main switch to manual and raise the coach using the two rear suspension switches.
Have the tech put the jacks under the chassis support point at the square tube crossmember that runs between the rear of the 2 tag axle tires. If you can get hard wood blocking that will work also.

Some years ago I had a speed sensor replaced by the Clark folks at the Kingsport, Tn location. Took very little time and was fairly painless when I paid the bill. Good people to do business with.
Hopefully you will have a similiar experience.

I called Clark back and confirmed they would be able to calibrate everything. They had already pulled all the parts, had them set aside and printed out directions to where I am for the tech. Confirmed everything is ready to go and they will take a CC for the service call.
If they can get me moving down the road, that’s all that matters to me. It’s getting cold here!

So Clark Power showed up this morning, got them a flat paved area to work on (well okay, us to work on). Swapped out the output and input speed sensors. Turbine sensor was rusted, so he didnt want to break the bolt head off. Tested and the input and turbine sensors tested good. output still not showing.
So we ran a twisted pair wire from the ECM to the sensor and tried that. Still nothing.
At that point we figured it was the ECM. So I drove the 90 miles, got a new one all programmed and got it back. Tested that and nothing.
Just as I finished the new ECM test, the tech showed back up (he had another call to go to and stopped in to check on me). We rechecked everything, new wired, etc.. pulled the output sensor and inspected the timing ring on the output shaft (it’s a simple timing ring that has high points that the magnetic sensor picks up and sends a signal to the ECM proving road speed and tells the ECM when to shift. Ring was solid on the output shaft.
However, when he installed the sensor, he was thinking that it went in further this time. Tested and ran like it should have. Gave it a couple tests, and no problems. We tested the ohms on the sensors and the old sensors all tested fine. So we are thinking it was the wiring. Have temp wiring in place so need to get new wires run to get the all where the should run and not in a questionable spot. Will stop in at Prevost in JAX and see if they can run new wires for me (or find out where the break is).
Clark Power is great to work with. They didnt charge me for the ECM until we determined if was the issue. So I didnt need to incur that expense in the end. The tech really didnt want to leave me out there, so stopping by on his way home was nice. After he figured out the issue he said he would work with the office and make sure to get me something off for driving the 180 mile round trip to get the ECM to test and not charge me for his evening stop to check on things.

Charles,
Glad to hear you got it figured out. It’s great to hear positive stories of service providers that don’t take advantage of people in bad situations. I have had good experiences with Clark Power as well.
Travel safe!

I’m also glad to hear you figured it out. I always read with great interest threads concerning coaches of similar type and vintage to mine thinking “there, but for the grace of God, go I”

570 miles down the road with no problems. Prevost JAX didn’t return my call so I didn’t stop on my way through there. Only a couple hours away s will get an appointment setup and bring it back at a later time to fix the wire loom problem.
will also do a continuity check check on both wires to determine which one is bad and be armed with a little more information for Prevost. -
Good job Charles…glad you are rolling without any more issues…you might not actually see a issue with the wiring, however look within 16″ of connectors….
-
Charles,
The wires are a twisted pair, so replacing only one is not an option. Go to:
https://techpub.prevostcar.com/en/download?id=14&type=publications&mode=view
Go to page 6-119 for the output sensor info.
Page 6-122 shows the resistance and On the 80 pin connector, pins 40 and 60 are used to check the reisitance.
Enjoy your read 🙂

I have a transmission issue and this popped up in my search. Great read. Amazing how much we forget over time.

Dick,
Since this was brought up I’ll provide an update to my issue.
Made it home with the “patch” ( or hack, which ever you want to call it). Got it to TN later on and just for the fun, we decided to put wiring back to stock (splicing original harness into sensor and dec box in front).
All worked fine, and I’ve put another 10k on it since with no issues.
My guess was we didn’t seat the sensor properly, tried to do some other checks, then ran the temp twisted pair, while also re-seating the sensor. Should have ta ken more time and done a single trouble shooting step at a time and saved some time and grief.
The original sensor was the issue no matter what.
