Not unusal to run 30F over engine temp on 8V92 with allison. I had to ask trucker buddies what is real world experience. Dale; yours should have a spin on filter for the 755- They did change it when they serviced it?
-
I figure they did. I don’t really know. Since all of this fiasco, I am paranoid about the trans. I was pulling into a Love’s fuel lane a couple of days ago to get fuel. There was a hump where the pavement had sank next to the concrete pad. The bus wouldn’t pull itself out of there. My trans starts in 2nd gear to make it smooth. Even with it manually put into first gear, it still wouldn’t pull. I had to back up and get a run at it. Am I paranoid, or should my bus have pulled that little hump?
-
Mine would pull it if chassis wasn’t bottomed out and why does it take off in 2nd gear? Can you put it in 1st and is that what you were trying to get out of the dip with? Never tried taking off in 2nd and just leave mine in D. Let it shift itself. You said yours shifts harsh. My 755CR shifts pretty solid but doesn’t bang or jerk.

I think my owners manual for my 87 coach with the same engine transmission combo you have made mention of the fact the available torque in reverse was greatly in excess of that when in drive.
-
True Jon but it should pull itself out of a hole it front of fuel island unless it’s a mighty deep hole and not sitting on chassis/frame. Made a boo boo out here at the ranchito and almost sunk mine pulling my F150 and that thing was spinning and throwing mud out the back. never let off cause didn’t want to have to pull it out with the dozer. Note to self,,, Don’t get off the beaten path when it’s raining.
-
I was at a show in KY the other night. Rained like crazy! When it was time to leave, my front curbside wheel had sunk 6-8″. At first I thought my tires were spinning when it wouldn’t move. It was just because it was in a hole. It finally did pull out in reverse.
My bus, and a lot of entertainers, are programmed to start in second gear. It is done this way to keep things from getting thrown around in the bus. Entertainer driving is all about being smooth. If I just press D, I start in 2nd. I can press 1 and start in first.
It may have just been a fluke, but it didn’t want to pull that little hump at all.

Don’t know Dale but seems like starting in 2nd gear would be hard on internals in trans. bands and such. Kinda like taking off in 2nd. gear on a stanard trans and hard on the clutch. A lot of slippage going on somewhere. I’m probably wrong , most always am, per my lovely wife. Tell everybody in the back “Hang On To Your Hat”
-
True with the slippage. On my drag cars many moons ago, run 5000 rpm stall TCI torque converters on 2 speed powerglides on some high Horsepower cars and occasionally get them out on the street and they would heat up in a hurry stoplight to stoplight. Might be dale’s trans heat problem if there is one. Converter not locking up.

after you shut it down with air pressure up. Go back to curb side tag axle and listen for bubbles. Really their is a air modulelator in side of trans below fluid line that effected shifting on my 89. External cheap replacement. Also if no joy there make sure it has air to it. Yours may or may not have it but worth a check.

I do hear air back there. Figured it was a valve. I’ll have the guys at the shop take a look at it. Thanks!
