Based on a thread from last year there were a lot of people interested in going to Alaska in 2017. We are thinking about it too starting late June/early July.

For those of you that have done this trip, did you take a spare tire, windshield, etc? Recommend any specific maintenance other than oil change before the trip? I am planning on new tires before the trip.

    Am I overthinking this?

Yes, thanks, I have the Milepost book.

I have read several blogs and it seems one should expect a significant amount of rain during the trip. We have enough of that in Oregon during the winter, don’t really want to follow it north during the summer.

We used to boat in B.C. and everytime we ventured north of Vancouver Island on the Inland Passage we encountered non-stop rain even in July and August. We hope the inland route is drier, but is it?

For those who have made the trip, how much rain should we expect? 10%, 50%, 90% of days?

I was an advocate for an Alaskan trip this year. During the winter a race was scheduled at Road America in late August that I’ll participate in and need to prepare for … so no Alaska for us this year. We want to do it in 2018.

If anyone does go, I’m sure all of us will be interested to hear about their trip.

We did the trip from TX back in 2009, early July to mid August.12k miles & six weeks. I don’t remember much rain, or bugs. I do remember the “frost heaves” between Whitehorse and the Alaskan border. YeeHaw!!!!

I hope to do it again soon.

Hi Dick. We meet again. Would you guys be interested in an Alaska trip in the summer of 2019?

We might be. It’s dependent on some things that might happen this summer that would get in the way of the trip.
