Walt, I think he would like your general impression on quality, power and handling. Also any words of wisdom or gotch ya.
Thank -
As for the Sprinter van, they are great. There is plenty of power considering what it is. It’s not a Ferrari…. but it’s not a Prius either. It’s adequate in the power dept. it also handles very well. I’ve never felt like it might get out of control. Though, I’m not a speed demon or anything. The back end does bounce quite a bit and if anyone is sitting back there you have to be careful with certain dips and bumps. Especially speed bumps. The back end can really throw people into the air. The fuel economy has been 15 for me. The ac does a weird thing where it freezes up and you have to turn off the compressor for a bit to thaw it. Then you can turn it back on. I don’t know if they all do this or if it’s just ours. It uses def and there is no diesel smell whatsoever. On the van the emissions system doesn’t take space so it’s great. it has duals in the rear and there is a spare! The tires are cheap (from a Prevost perspective) and a lot of Mercedes places can service it. Though…. they are work trucks. So only some places take care of it like an RV. We had one good place but then we moved and then we place the worked rotated the wheels and flipped the Alcoa rims. Ugh…. what a moron. It’s longer than most…. but we can basically park in any grocery parking lot. I wouldn’t expect to park it in down town San Francisco…. but any suburban situation you’ll be able to. We just look for a spot with room to pull over the front just a little bit. we have the shorter one…. it should have got the longer one. The longer one has a “trunk”. Ours does….. but it’s way small. Though…. honestly…. ours is the family van. Not an RV for us. We camped in it Once. So we want the trunk for Costco runs. Now, we have to put the stuff all over the floor. There is no basement storage at all. It would depend on your use. There is storage but not good storage for BBQs tables, bikes etc…. I’ll write about the converter stuff next. -
We had a PleasureWay on a Sprinter chassis. Flawless. But after one year I gort tired of squatting all the time. i’m 6’3” tall.

as for the RV part. If you had a Prevost conversion it’s not the same. The cabinets and such are sorta the same…. but the installation, equipment, and the way it’s done is pretty standard. There is a propane generator that is loud. I installed a muffler and it’s better…. but it’s loud. The microwave works good and so does the fridge. The stove is propane and is the heater. The water heater is electric and propane. My water heater doesn’t work on propane. The only time I tried it, I saw orange light outside and wondered “what’s that?” Went outside and it was the water heater blowing flame out the side of the van! I haven’t tried it since. The way the tanks are done is good. There is a macerated that pushes the liquid where you want it. And an electric reel to reel the hose back in.I havent had anything other than this airstream, a regal boat (39′) and the Marathon. I think the airstream is probably pretty standard for mainstream RV’s. it’s like our boat.
It it has an invertor and has 2 TV’s which we like. The toilet works good. But the shower is not the best. It’s a sink with a removable handle that’s what you use for showering. It’s small…. but. The van is small. It’d be OK for a short trip. I wouldn’t try to full time in it. But…. that’s kinda up to the person.
overall we we love it. But….. it’s nothing like a Prevost.
Next time I will get the electric road trek. We need to use the AC a lot and th generator is just too loud.
The airstream looked the the coolest when we bought it. That’s why we got it. Plus…. everyone in that market says airstream is the best. We’ve only had to get small things fixed. The step stopped working one day. The bathroom fan stopped working. And the main vent fan the screw thing stripped. Anywhere will work on it. They won’t work on Prevost a anywhere.
i dont think youre going wrong with an airstream. It’s cool for what it is. And the size.
