  • Air Tank drain valve pull chain question

Posted by Archived on June 29, 2014 at 8:07 pm

So while I have the coach up on the ramps and stands for norgrens (3 of the 6 under the coach are done) and break chambers. I was also planning to replace the drain cocks with the pull chain operated values. So a question for those that have added them.

How did you route the chain on an XL for access when not under the coach? I was planning to do, wet, primary and secondary tanks?

    Joe,

I’ve done the wet tank and you have to find a place that will not interfere with any of the suspension, or wheels, while finding just the right spot for the pull cord.

    Joe,

Rethink the need to use that type of valve.

You drain your air tanks for two reasons. The presence of water is a bad thing with the exception of a tablespoon or two out of the wet tank. You want to be able to note the amount of water and with the location of the tanks up high and out of sight except when beneath the coach it is going to be difficult to detect moisture.

But the draining of the tanks if done in sequence provides a verification the protection and check valves are functioning. If you use lanyards you have to be sure to be patient, drain each tank in succession and try to judge if each has held pressure. You can do that by draining the first, looking at the gauges, then the second, look at the gauges, etc.

so i was thinking I wanted to do the pressure protection valve check more often than I am under the coach. Still being a working man I don’t use the coach enough. Right now I’m a 3,000 mile a year at most kind of guy.

Adding the chain would let me do it with out heading up the ramps before each trip which is quarterly at best.

Was hoping you guys already ahead of me had figured out the best route for the chain. But I can always pass.

use caution if you decide to do this. Remember if you catch road debris it could catch on the cable and open it. So if you do install, try to route it high and out harms way as much as possible. I am not a fan of these and with proper maintance don’t see the need in them.

thanks Jeff, and Jon, I’ve backed off this plan. The route looked precarious which is why I asked about the routing taken by others. I’ll plan to get it up on the ramps a couple of times a year.

Thanks for the discussion a few weeks ago I still need to get up to see you with the coach.
