  • Air Conditioning Temp Spread

Posted by Archived on February 21, 2012 at 6:48 pm

I have the Duo Therm Comfort Control single thermostat that controls the Aqua-Hot, Heat Pumps and A/C. The front of the bus temperature is controlled at the thermostat, the galley and bedroom temperature is controlled by remote sensors that look like this:

My problem is there is a very large temperature spread between the actual interior temperatures and the thermostat settings. Somtimes the spread is 4 to 6 degree’s and other times it’s closer. There is no method to adjust the temperature spread at the thermostat and is it possible these temperature sensors go bad?

Winter, it was 84 here today, but I soon need to head home and it will probably be in the 60’s in GA.

Suggest you call AAP and ask about service in the states you will be heading to.

    Tom,

There are two basic types of sensors. One is a thermistor and can not be calibrated unless the logic is built into the controller. Lower cost controllers seldom have this function. The second type is an RTD that changes resistance with temperature. Calibration is by adding a resistor in series or parralel to change the resistance seen by the controller.

Controllers in this price range are seldom accurat. What you should consider is rapetability. Does each zone temperature repeate it’s display temperature as the temp changes then returns regardless of the difference with other zones?

If it does just accept that the difference between the zones will always be a little off.

Thanks for the explanation John. I
suspect the problem is the boards as they are not consistent. As an
example, the bedroom unit is the worst offender, I may have to push
the thermostat up or down as much as 6 degree’s or more to achieve
a start or to shut down. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency.

Just call it a comfort control. Scratch out the degree marks and set them to what you feel is right.

That would work Jim, but I have the single thermostat that controls all three units, A/C, Heat Pumps, Aqua-Hot and it’s digital.

Tom, mine is the same way. The bedroom is about 6 degrees high, so I have to set the thermostats for that zone 6 degrees lower than the other two.

That’s pretty much what I do also Charles.

    Tom,

The boards provide a mounting point for the sensors and a termination point for the wires. Recomend you record the temperature diffrences then swap the boards around and compare data. I suspect the diffrences recorded before the move will be transferd to the new location. If that is the case, you have conformed the diffrences are located on the remote sensor boards and not on the controler that is sampling data from the 3 remote zones.

Thanks John, that will be my next
project and I’ll probably be back to you seeking more advise. This
HVAC stuff is a little frustrating, mainly because I don’t completely
understand the logic and how all the assorted components for A/C
    come together.
