  • After Hours Technical Support/Service

Posted by Archived on September 12, 2014 at 9:14 pm

    All,

During the week I looked at the four convertors websites seeking information regarding after business hours technical support/service. The only convertor that mentioned after hours support was Marathon. To confirm that Marathon provides after hours support I called and talked with an individual at Marathon. Did I miss something on the other convertors websites or is Marathon the only convertor that provides this service? Does Prevost provide after hours technical support/service?

One of the selling points that is mentioned about Newell Coach is that they have somebody on call 24/7 to answer questions about your Newell Coach.

    Thanks,

    Reese

Reese, We all have resources for after hours support. I know that Liberty owners are able to accsess Troy pretty much anytime. Many of us have developed relationships with our favorite techs and have their cell nos. Prevost offers all hours support and Bill Jensen makes his cell no. available. You also have 24/7 support from DD and Allison all over the country. Most emergencies involve the bus side compared to the converter side. In addition we have this site and I think most knowledable owners are satisfied with the support that we have. Geo.

As far as Marathon is concerned the after hours support is great. We were on the road about 2am one night. The airstep started to have a mind of its own as it just started to go in and out. We called the 800 number got an operator she took our cell number and we had a tech on the line in 10 minutes. He walked us through rebooting the brain and we never lost a minute. During the day my experience is that there is always someone to answer your question or help you attempt to diagnose a technical problem.

Don’t count out conversions just because they are no longer around. I like others owned a Thompson Coach and Riick Thompson stood behind his coaches years even after he choose to shut the doors. I had a Thompson for 5 years sold it thru Calif Coach and the new owner had a problem and you guess it Rick Thompson was there to help the owner. I’m just sayin check into it yourself and make a few calls to the guys behind the scenes . Oh ya the Marathon guys are good in getting back to ya as I’m sure as the other one’s are .

Part of the learning process that begins when a coach is purchased is the development of a network of people to call when you need support.

Anyone that takes the time to read the forums is going to see a lot of posts from owners that can’t get the coach started, can’t get the coach to the driving height, or are experiencing other somewhat serious concerns such as a check engine light. First, recognize problems that are so significant as to stop you from getting anywhere for service are relatively rare. We are approaching 1400 members, and previous forums with active memberships also had a lot of Prevost owners but as a percentage of the overall participants only a very small percentage are really in trouble.

And when we get to the root cause of some of the type of problems owners face it is often found there is a fairly simple “fix” to get someone going again. Sometimes the “fix” is as simple as resetting a circuit breaker, or replacing a solenoid coil, or manually retracting a slide. Sometimes the problem is much more serious but those are pretty rare.

But the bottom line is that Prevost, Detroit or Volvo, and Allison for example are always going to be your #1 contact when there is a problem and I believe all offer 24 hour assistance. I cannot think of anything a converter needs to help with in the middle of the night, but I believe all of them have phone numbers they offer for help when needed.

Another source of assistance is another member who has your specific conversion and experience with that conversion. A lot of times owners learn the not so obvious things that help an owner such as where the GFCI receptacle is for the front or rear outlets, or how to reboot the house control system, or how to bypass an inverter to get the refrigerator powered up. Service support is a concern, and everyone needs to prepare in advance for the time when they might need some, but it is not now and never will be an issue that should influence the purchase of a coach.
