Adhesive under the skin of an XL with rivets
What is the type of gray seakaflex under the stainless steal skin that will hold it in place even though it has rivets and is that just marine silicone in the center of each rivet?

Today, they are making repairs to the XLII’s using Simpson 70-03. Not sure what Sikaflex they used for your vintage.

See I read all post.. Need to put something under new skin on my xle– the 98 has a 2 sided tape material on it from the factory. FWIW plus rivets. always looking to improve the light bulb… Prob just go back old way…Bob

Use regular Sikaflex Construction Sealant available at the likes of Home Depot and contractor suppilers.
This is if you have a panel removed and wish to attach it. Not talking about caulking joints of panels already riveted.
Look for gray, but since you are only sealig water intrusion and not bonding panels any color will work as you will not see it outside the joint. A thin bead along the rivet line will spread nicely and seal the joint. Too much in the joint will be too messy and could make it wavy.
You didn’t ask, but additionally apply your panels when they are thoroughly hot, how hot is up to you. Cold is a no, no.
Way back when, the joint compound was a mixture of clay, linseed oil and turpentine, better know as glazing putty. There are still some areas where it can be used.
Prevost also uses a “putty like tape” (you can find out about it at Prevost) it is thick and comes in a roll and when applied the wax paper separating the layers on the roll is peeled off and the over panel is applied.
If you have large voids to be filles after assembly, such as around electrical wires entering a box, use your imagination here. You can use non hardening fire stop putty 9340k11 or 9340k22 McMaster-Carr.

I have 5 panels off now for repair. FWIW ? Use the silaflex at the lap of sheets where the tape does not touch?? makes sense.. Thanks for info JIM
