  • AD-9 Bendix dryer Filter change

Posted by Art on November 10, 2022 at 10:09 am

I installed a brand new Air dryer 3 years ago, The old dryer was a Bendix Saver 100, I replaced with a new Bendix AD-9 dryer, I just did my 1st service on dryer andreplaced the desiccant filter, Never did a AD-9 before, Pulled off steel cover with big O-ring and then with my strap wrench removed filter, New filter came with two O- ring’s one under filter and another under steel cover, Lubed O-rings and tightened filter down with strap wrench around 50 foot pounds of torque, and installed cover with new O-ring. So the AD-9 dryer the air is sealed in by O-ring under filter, What is the O-ring under under cover for??

No body wants to talk about Air Dryers and Desiccant Filters, survival for our air system, without a good dryer our buses will be hurting…..

From what I have seen the air dryer is not high on most owner’s list of things to maintain, but the one that really ends up biting owners in the butt is the one installed by the converter that supposedly traps moisture from the aux compressor before it enters the accessory tank. Failure to provide dry air to the pneumatic system gets very expensive.

I never need my aux compressor, but if I did turn it on it is in PS rear compartment with Aqua Hot with a water trap and another trap in steer compartment, But If I had to use it it’s protected

I drain my air system down every spring and change the air dryer cartridge at that time also. To me it’s cheap insurance to change it out when I’m under there at my house, as it’s not accessible on the road.

At that time I also check the fittings and lines to tanks and Norgrens.

I found 4 leaking drain valves on my tanks as well as the line to the Aux tank. So I replaced all the drain valves and fixed the leaking fittings elsewhere.
