    Glens,

    Has your OTR been changed to 134 Freon? If so were the hoses and Orings changed? Ours leaks 134 but they are not detectible for some reason.

    Tom, what method(s) have you used for detection? Sniffer? Dye? I had a frustrating leak in my aux a/c compressor and could not find it with a sniffer. Dye method did the trick. Kirby

    Yeah Tom, changed over to R134. Hoses on compressor were changed and don’t know about front. Had it done about 4 years ago or better. Doesn’t get as cold as R12 was but still frosty. Had to add a few pounds the other day to get her up and cooling. Think I have a leak somewhere but 134 is cheap and until it gets worse gonna keep adding. I also found a cruisair leak on one of the 3 but had to use nitrogen and soap spray to find. Sniffer and dye didn’t work. Might do the same on bus air when time comes to find leak. Put 150 pounds on cruiseair system and don’t know about the pressues on coach system. Think mine could be leaking at compressor seal, might check yours. Heard that’s where to start. On my cruisair ( the one thst swings out for service on it and other 2) found they used the wrong kind of hose and it was leaking through hose membrane. Might be the same at the engine compressor.

    My bus is a 2003 Marathon 45′ XLii with 4 RTU’s – no OTR except dash AC, and obviously no Cruise-Aire. I have personally put over 140,000 miles on it and have travelled from coast to coast and in most seasons at some point. I can run 2 RTU’s off the alternators going down the road, and can switch from #1 & #3 to #1 & #2 if the salon area were to get really hot. In fact, the only time I even run RTU #4 in the bedroom, is if we are dry camping and I want to run it all night on battery power.

    Except in the few instances where I left the bus in a field with no AC running during a hot day, I cannot think of a time I have needed to run all 4 RTU’s at the same time except to really load up the generator for sport or when I was by myself. My wife will forever complain about the cold temperature I enjoy maintaining in the bus.

    My previous 40′ XL Liberty had 3 Cruise-Aires and I rarely wasn’t running at least 2 at all times.

    Just thought I would put in a plug for RTU’s. My only complaint would be that they are somewhat noisier.

    TG is speaking truth.

    If a coach does not have OTR and the house AC units are needed to supplement the driver’s air while in motion roof units are not going to be affected by heat radiating from a hot roadway. Cruiseair units are going to work less effectively because the heat coming off the highway is going to make the condensing unit less effective or in some cases shut them down.

    We have tried the sniffer and the dye but cannot find the leak. Problem is it leaks in just a couple of weeks. I have had the compressor seal changed as well. I am planning on changing out the black hose first to see if that is the problem.

    That nitrogen and blue leak solution they sell if the only way to go. Have to drain/evacuate system to nitogen charge. New dryer, Vacuum system , and charge. I’m learning the systems, cruiseairs and OTR cause I can’t find anybody to work on the coach around here. Good luck and stay safe.
