ABS Dash Light On
Happy Holidays to all.
We were headed back from a hunting trip yesterday and had to back up about 3/4 of mile to turn bus around. When we got her straightened back out the ABS dash light came on and stayed on.
I have not had this happen before and wondered what the cause/solution is…..

There is a high probability a sensor has moved back away from the gear ring it uses to sense wheel speed.
You normal braking is unaffected so the coach is safe to drive, however the ABS system will not function.
If you are near somewhere where a shop has a reader for the ABS it will take them less than a minute to tell you the actual reason. Sometimes damp weather will trigger the light and the next time you turn the engine back on the light will go out. A sensor could be bad. But the bottom line is deal with the issue at your convenience with a shop that isn’t out to take advantage of you because usually all it takes to fix it is to tap the sensor that is the problem back in a little bit and the problem goes away.

If you have access to your build sheet can you post the rear end manufacture ? I just went through this ABS light issue and had our Rockwell axle upgrade done at Prevost FW.
On many starts the ABS light would clear in less then 1/4 mile of travel. Other times remain on for entire day, week.
The computer log showed 95 hits from ABS sensor to clear dash light coming from drivers side drive axle sensor.
Passenger side drive axle had logged one hit.

Unplug sensor wiring at rear end pumpkin, remove drive wheels ,drive axles, brake calipers, rotors, backing plates.
Install, new backing plates, this is where the sensors are now mounted. If one malfunctions it can be replaced in 30 minutes.
The upgrade includes new sensors, brake pads, rotors (2), all axle studs, axle seals, wiring kit . gear oil change , lap top upgrade road test. Back in shop after road test raised up to re-check everything including re-torque axle nuts, my request.
Tear-down 1 tech, re-install 2 techs, one day in shop.
Cost… $3200

I do have a Rockwell axle. The ABS light turned off after a few miles today. I will have it looked at on our next service interval.
Glad to know there are no safety issues with driving. Thanks for the feedback.

Mine has done the same thing twice in seven years. Both times it occured on a cold and wet day and corrected itself after driving for a few minutes.

If the problem re-occurs before deciding the best course of action have a code reader analyze what is going on. As was mentioned in my post and the previous one damp weather can be the issue and that probably is a situation that might be ignored.
If a sensor needs to be adjusted that’s a tap with the hammer and the repair is made. If it is a bad sensor an Ohm meter will confirm that. Don’t rule out a bad connector or pinched wire. Inspect the cheap stuff first.
However, if it relates to differential installed sensors then you have to decide if you wish to go to the expense and effort Al has gone to. The repair he discussed is expensive but likely the best. If you are handy it is something you can do yourself if you have some basic tools and chassis supports.

Just an update…..It did correct itself and went away as you described above. Drove about 900 miles over Christmas with no ABS light.

At some point the ABS light may come on more frequently, but generally that means one has worked back a little and a reader will pinpoint which one, and a slight tap to restore it to the correct position is all it will take to resolve the problem.
