  • A Route Through West Virginia

Posted by Davy on May 2, 2020 at 9:40 am

I realize that this is not AAA, but I need some help with a route through West Virginia.

We have been close to home since the world turned upside down and now we are looking at routes when we leave.

At the moment, I am supposed to be in Romney, WV for five days at the end of May and then down to South Carolina for a week. The drive from southern Ohio to Romney will be crooked no matter what route I take, but I am looking for the best way. This is complicated by the fact that I will have my tent trailer behind me because I need it in South Carolina.

The trailer is 24′ long and a foot taller than the bus. I want to avoid as many complications as I can. When I originally scheduled all this, the trailer would have been dropped in northern Virginia while we ran over to Romney. Unfortunately, that plan caught a virus!

I am looking at I-71 north to I-70 east to I-79 south to I-68 east to Cumberland, Maryland. At that point, I would exit onto MD51/WV28 and follow that to Romney? Is anyone familiar with these roads, especially the 51/28 section? I know I can do the interstate sections. I may not like it, but I can do it.

We may skip WV altogether, but for now, it is still on the books, so I need to plan accordingly. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Davy
