A little Nut(s)
While working in one of the bays I noticed the door connection roller was out of place. If you look at the 2 pictures you will see that there is a metal insert that goes into the wall and then the bracket screws to the insert. The problem is that the insert has come out and there does not appear to be any option to reconnect it. How were these originally installed and what can I do to get a good secure insert back in that hole?

Those are call Plus Nuts or Riv Nuts. It takes a special tool to set them secure. The hole size is critical so if its wallered out you will have to step up a size. Perhaps going from Sae to metric or vise versa. The tool is cheap and available on amazon.

Definitely Riv-Nuts. Fairly easy to replace. Just make sure and get stainless Riv-nuts to cut down the possibility of galvanic corrosion with the surrounding metal

These function exactly the same as a pop rivet. Buy a set of new ones and reinstall, I use these all the time. By the looks of the one in your picture, the material squeezed up against the head of the nut instead of up against the back side of the wall. I see you have two thicknesses of material there, using calipers measure the hole and measure the material thickness, McMaster or Grainger carries these. Make sure you push the nut up against the wall, so the material bulges on the back side, that is where you get your retention.

This should be a great source of RivNuts. After discovering them, I’ve used them quite often. Many “starter kits” include a setting tool that looks like one you’d use for pope rivets, but don’t give you enough leverage. I bought one similar to the picture.
