  • A/C’s Short Cycling

Posted by David on October 23, 2023 at 12:57 pm

Have a new to me 2004 H3-45. I can run all four A/C’s without issue when running the generator so I don’t think it’s the units themselves. When plugged into shore power, with steady 120-122 volts, three of the four A/C units short cycle. I don’t try to run more than three at a time and other loads aren’t the issue. Have tried running each individually and they still short cycle. Trying too figure out what causes this and a workable solution. Suggestions?

I’m guessing … just guessing … that when you’re on shore power and running four Cruise-Airs (plus whatever else is on) you’re drawing more than 50amps on one or both legs. Does your coach tell you how many amps you’re pulling?

When you’re trying to run four CA’s what else is running? Electric water heater? Both house battery chargers at a high amp draw rate? Electric clothes dryer? Electric cooktop? Microwave?

Have you tried running one CA, then two CA, then three, and finally four. At what point does the short cycling start?

I suspect that like many of the rest of us (including me) you’ll need to learn how to balance electrical loads in your coach.

Thanks for the reply! Yes – I can monitor the loads but it doesn’t seem to have an impact as it happens with no other loads (other than the inverters). I have the same issue with all the three units even if they are the only thing running…

Try to bypass your inverters and batteries they can cause all kinds of problems if not working correctly. You should have a switch to select shore power with out going through the inverters somewhere on the coach. If I am understanding your issue correctly this will help you isolate it to inverter or batteries.

What do you mean by short cycling? Are the compressors kicking out while condenser fans keep running?
